    replacement policy

    So i called Dell today to try and get a replacement for my broken XPS and was told that although my laptop would probably have qualified for a replacement, it has been too long since the last repair for it to qualify. The rep said that in order for a replacement to be issued the laptop must break within only 1 month of the repair. So after about 1.5 hours on the phone i am getting a guy to come fix it within the next couple of days. I still want a replacement as this laptop no longer fits with my needs and i know it will break down eventually again anyways whether it be in a month or in a year.

    In order to get it should i just call dell in about 2-3 weeks and tell them that i am having the same issues (which i probably will anyways)? Do they have a way of checking if the issues are still apparent? Is there something else i should do about this?

    Just my personal opinion.

    I don't think it's right that you're asking people here if you should "call dell in about 2-3 weeks and tell them that you're having the same issue" in order to get a replacement. It hasn't even happened yet and you're just assuming or hoping that "it probably will anyways."

    If I were in your situation, sure, I'd want a replacement laptop, too. They are giving you a brand new (or semi brand new) laptop at the cost of your warranty. But I would keep it to myself and not ask people about "tricks" I "should do" to get them send me the replacement.

    Just a simple fact. If your laptop's condition falls under Dell's replacement policy, they will.

    fair enough, but if you fully understood my case you'd probably understand why i think i should get a replacement. The last time i got it fixed was 2 months before i went off to university and by the end of september i was having the same problems i had before they fixed it. I have had to wait until now (due to being away from home and not being able to go without my laptop for even a day) to get it fixed. the m1530 has known issues and i think dell should take the necessary actions so that i dont have to go through using a semi-broken laptop for nearly 8 months again. i paid $1600 for this laptop and i dont think that it should have to be fixed every couple months.

    I understand how frustrating it would be when your laptop's not functioning well, esp. while you're at school and I've gone through such experiences before as well. I was just saying it wouldn't be viable for people to publicly advise you on the specific questions you addressed.

    Anyways, I may be wrong, but I believe Dell's replacement policy is something like 3 fixes for the same problem. Could be different for an XPS unit. If you're in school, what I would do is just letting them fix it (if they say they'd fix it before replacement) and buy some cheap laptop from Costco for use during fix. You can return it anytime within 90 days. :p
