The screen is an SEC4457 - for Vostro 1400/Inspiron 1420 - and am wondering if anyone else thinks the light leakage/bleed is bad enough to have Dell replace it.

Maybe i'm paranoid, since the rest of the display is top notch - no grain, no banding, good enough viewing angles for me - but the leakage is becoming a little annoying. I may just be paying TOO much attention to it.

    What does everyone else think?

    Thanks

The first picture is most representative of what I actually see.

However, I'm weary about having Dell replace it because I dont want to have to deal with AUO graininess, SEC viewing angles or MORE light leakage

That's bad enough to return. Send the same pictures to Dell that you've posted here and your point will be made. If there are problems with replacement screens (I doubt that) send them back, too, and make sure some sort of manager becomes aware of the problem if it continues.

    Good luck.

It does look quite bad, I'd send it back and get a new one. It'll only grate on you the more you see it until you wished you had.

If they send you another one and it is messed up in any way, call them again and demand to speak to a manager. Tell the manager that you have already gotten it replaced and it has problems again, and that you want an upgrade to a better screen like a WXGA+ if you don't have it, or you want something else thrown in. I have done this before and usually if you threaten to call the better business bureau or something like that they are happy to throw in some extras.

    lol. nice.

I just got finished with Dell Customer Chat.

I didnt have to hassle them too much. I just insisted that I was NOT going to reboot my system. Few minutes later they agreed to send me a screen. I'll keep everyone posted.

They claim i'll get the 'exact same screen or better' - but we'll see about that :p

Well, fluorescent bulb light bleeding aside, your screen is surely messed up because your start bar is in the wrong place. Dell best see to that stat.
