My xps comes with the standard monitor card, no extras, and I run Vista. I've used my (old) external 19" monitor (cannot remember the brand at the moment), but I can't seem to get more than 1280x1024 from it, running extended desktop from my 1280 x 800 laptop monitor resolution. Am I able to get a higher resolution than 1280 from an external monitor, or is this as good as it gets?

    Thanks,
    Boanerges.

External monitors have limits too...I could easily see a 19" LCD having that limit. I don't think the graphics card is the problem here...that card could power 1920x1200 if it had the monitor that could handle that resolution.

FYI, the VGA specification allows for up to 2048×1536. So you could find a 20" CRT that can run at that resolution and it could do it.
