There should be a setting in your bios, I think its called speedstep?, but that might be a setting for everything, im not sure if it can be set differently for battery/plugged-in modes

Normally the speed changing works fine, it is designed to increase the speed when the system needs it

Normally when you are plugged in, you are at top speed.

You need to change your power scheme to "Always On" or "Max Performance" if you are using the Dell QuickSet software. Most of the time, the Pentium M processor will run at max speed when plugged in.

if i turn off speedstep. it makes the notebook run at the lowest cpu speed.

i can't find anything in the bios to make it run at max speed.

i'm wondering because my cpu's only running at 1.3ghz while playing that fear demo with everything maxed out. i get good (40) framerates but i'm thinking it can get better

and for WoW, i'm only running at 800mhz...is that normal?

Did you change your power schemes when it is plugged in? Do you have the Dell QuickSet software? You might also want to check Intel's website for their Centrino managing software but it might not work as Dell uses a "modified" chipset for their notebooks. As long as the games are running fine, then I wouldn't worry. The CPU runs at a clock speed that is determined by its work load and power source. So, if you are plugged in, and it is running at 800MHz for WoW, then it probably only needs to run at 800MHz and probably increases its clock speed when the game gets more complex. If you are getting 40FPS and higher in F.E.A.R. then that is pretty good as my XPS with 512MB of RAM struggles to run it.
