    If i want to watch avi files on the tv what type of connection do i need to buy

    You already know the answer, just as the port name suggested, S-Video. What I used is a standard S-Video cable, with a component Video converter, and it works great but only analog TV at SD resolution (< 1024 x 765). Also, you can do a search on this forum, someone manage to purchase the Dell S-Video adapter that support Digital Audio and composite output, and he can do 1080i with no problem.
