Just curious, is it safe to keep my laptop plugged in while it is off? I noticed that the AC adapter gets really hot after a few hours.

Yes, though if it's too hot, you may have a defective brick.

    Battery guide.

Agreed. it should be warm to the touch especially if your not doing anything out of the ordinary or if you are not charging the battery.

If the problem persist I would call Dell and ask for a replacement.

Yes it's safe, but I would recommend otherwise so you are not wasting energy and to extend the AC Adapters life.

Here's a question to those who keep their notebooks connected to the wall for long periods of time - do you also have the battery in?

I have both the 1520 and the d610 plugged in and even the 3 year old Latitude has 2.5 hours battery life left. (it had 3 20 min when it was new) So it does not kill your battery as some on this forum would suggest.

My 2.5 year old HP nx9420 has stayed 80% of the time plugged in, never removed the battery and it still packs about 75% of the battery time it initially featured.
Plus, I use it as a UPS, there were a few outages when all was in the dark and I was playing on battery :D

That is a definite hardware failure.
A regular battery will last at least 1-2 years before starting to lose capacity.
