Just curious, is it safe to keep my laptop plugged in while it is off? I noticed that the AC adapter gets really hot after a few hours.
-
It should be fine-i do it all the time, just make sure that the AC adapter is well ventilated
-
Yes, though if it's too hot, you may have a defective brick.
Battery guide. -
The AC power thing doesnt get to hot.
-
If the problem persist I would call Dell and ask for a replacement. -
Yes it's safe, but I would recommend otherwise so you are not wasting energy and to extend the AC Adapters life.
-
It is safe. I keep my laptop plugged in 24 hours a day
-
I, also usually keep my mine plugged in
And, haven't had any problems

ive had my xps m170 plugged in for 2 years. plan on doing the same with my vostro 1400...

Here's a question to those who keep their notebooks connected to the wall for long periods of time - do you also have the battery in?
-
I have both the 1520 and the d610 plugged in and even the 3 year old Latitude has 2.5 hours battery life left. (it had 3 20 min when it was new) So it does not kill your battery as some on this forum would suggest.
-
depends on how much heat the battery is taking in when its plugged in
-
My 2.5 year old HP nx9420 has stayed 80% of the time plugged in, never removed the battery and it still packs about 75% of the battery time it initially featured.
Plus, I use it as a UPS, there were a few outages when all was in the dark and I was playing on battery -
think mileage varies, I had an old D800 90W plugged into my 1520. Died in 3 days 100% on.
-
That is a definite hardware failure.
A regular battery will last at least 1-2 years before starting to lose capacity.
safe to keep laptop plugged in?
