Today, I have learned that screen of my 6400 is samsung. I have heard it is not good as the LGs. But I am quite happy with it, almost no light leakage, no strain on (extremely sensitive) eyes despite high res. Should I still feel bad? Do you guys know any long term disadvantages of samsungs?
cheers,

Do you drive a Ferrari? You don't have to have the best if you're satisfied with what you got. Samsung like LG, make the best quality screens.
do not replace!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Hey,
I got a Sharp, and I really like it.
Had an LD or LT.. or something, which I hated so much with bad light leakage and generally crap picture -
i feel sorry for you that you have a samsung. mean while there are kids starving in Africa. Lets put it in perspective people.

oncdoc, this(above) is the worst line of argument I have ever heard. what are you, 15? If you don't think my question is worth answering, then don't bother to write anything! What the hell are you doing in a notebook forum?Go and join the red cross.

i dont know according to people here saying whats bad and whats good some of them are too sophisticated, dont belieive tham.
most important is that do YOU like it.
mine is Quanta , never heard about it and i like it.
by the way last months everybody spits lg and samsung , now lg is good samsung still bad. what the heck? good , bad?
if there's no leackage and no dead pixels what else do u want? -
as speedking says, what matters is that you are happy with the screen.
there is NO GUARANTEE that getting one brand of LCD over another will get you a better screen. all the brands that dell uses have the potential to be good or bad so take what you read with a grain of salt.
in all honestly, i really do fail to see the point of this thread since in your very first post you said you were "quite happy with it, almost no light leakage, no strain on (extremely sensitive) eyes despite high res"
what kind of answer are you looking for? -
jeeezzz....need some hand holding or what?

I am suprised to see that the maturity level of the forum is quite high! As I said before, if you don't like the question I asked, then, don't bother to write anything. If you don't mind reading the first question again, you will see that I am asking about any long term disadvantages of these screens. I(drumfu, you sound different from these losers, so this was for you.) I am happy with the screen and the "replace or not to replace" banner is due to the whining sound the machine does.
Well, instead of saying yes or no, or just looking the other way, why would you choose to try to make fun of the question? you are either just immature or had nothing better to do; in either case, you are bunch of losers(except for the guys who gave decent answers). -

thanks bobdare, speedking extra-ordinary_guy and drumfu. I have got my answer if you have anything add about the long term stuff.
cheers, -
LCDs usually are the last thing that will go on a notebook, if ever.
so, what you can assume is that the "level of quality" that your LCD is currently at is probably going remain steady throughout the life of the notebook. so, if you currently have no dead or stuck pixels, you probably won't develop any over time. in terms of light leakage, i have actually heard that it can get better over time as opposed to worse; i don't know how true this is, i'm just repeating what i've heard.
the things that can go "bad" on your display would be things like the backlight dying. this is not an LCD problem as if you get the backlight fixed, you will be back to where you were before the light went out. -

Great answer, thanks..
-
how do you check what screen you've got?
-

I used dell.ca with my service tag.
-
i did that but it still doesnt say what brand of screen i have, how do i get that?
-
I understand your point there buddy. I ordered a D620 and then saw there was a huge thread of people complaining about the screen on the D620. Then I got mine and compaired it to my 19 inch LG LCD monitor and sure the LG can get a lot brighter but I don't use it at a level that hurts my eyes. Otherwise the LG and the D620's screen's more or less the same.
So the moral of the story is you always get a group of people who would complain simply because they think another screen looks better. However, it doesn't mean there's anything actually wrong with the screens. -

I guess so. Too bright is no good for me anyway. Glad that we are happy with the screens.

In my humble opinion, I feel that as long as you are happy with your LCD, that will be fine. I mean everyone has their own individual preference & expectations of how the LCD should be... The most important thing is that you are the one who will be using your laptop everyday & not others, so if it doesn't exhibit any of the mentioned problems in earlier posts by others, then I guess you're alright. Good luck & hope you enjoy your laptop.
samsung so what?
