anybody order one of these? I was going to get a previously built unit, but I exceeded the time limit and it dissapeared, and then I found a scratch and dent that had everything I wanted and more, in my price range, I'm kinda worried about it being scratch and dent, but hopefully it wont be anything major, this is what I got

Scratch & Dent: Sometimes brand new or refurbished items have cosmetic blemishes. Whenever this happens, they are sold as Scratch & Dent. This is a great option to save money while maintaining the reliability of Dell Outlet's rigorous rebuilding and retesting process.

Scratch and dent means physical damage that is existing exterior of the case. If you don't mind the look, I would get it. It looks pretty good at the price.

I think it is a good price for its components. The prices of Scratch and Dent units are usually largely cheaper than that of the Previously Ordered New or the Certified Refurbished unit.

However, the down side is that the quality of the Scratch and Dent unit is a gamble. The unit may or may not possess clearly visible denting or marks. It's purely based on luck whether you'll get a unit obviously scratched or one which is very cosmetically clean where the scatches are hard to find.

But if you don't particularly care for minor scratches on the unit, I'd say totally go for it. The price is substantially less that it would be for an exact unit from the Home section.

I'm not sure about whether you could argue with Dell if there are too many scratches not to your liking, because your purchase of the unit would be an implied unconditional acceptance of the existence of scratches.

its on its way, its a pretty loaded system for the price, I'm looking forward to it, minor damage I can deal with, its going to be on the road and in the air with me for a long time, so its gonna get its share of bumps and bruises anyway

Yeah, please report back and let us know how it is. I ordered my M140 from Dell Outlet as "Refurbished" and it could pass as brand new in every respect. I could have saved a few more bucks on the same setup as scratch and dent but I was afraid of what I might get. I'm very curious as to how scratched and how dented these things might be!

(My gut feeling is that it probably won't be too bad. I doubt Dell wants to ship out laptops that look like beaters.)

Half the time, you can't even see a scratch. The other 40% it's one minor one, only 10% is it really even noticeable.

You may get it sooner. I ordered mine from Dell Outlet on a Sunday afternoon and was given a ship date of the following Friday. When I woke up Monday morning, they had already assigned a tracking number. I had it in my hands on Tuesday.

I think Dell is pretty conservative on their ship dates.

Not a bad deal at all. Depending on where the scratches and dents are, you may be able to purchase whatever component it is and replace it yourself. usually you can find palm rests, lids, etc online. :)

Hope you're right Iceman. If it "shipped out" on Friday, they may have merely generated the tracking number and it could very well sit at the departure facility until Tuesday morning. Then you can start your 3 to 5 days. :(

With luck I'm wrong though, and it's actually en-route now. Nothing is quite so frustrating as waiting for a new gadget, eh. :)

I'm not getting the laptop for gaming purposes, though having the ability to do some light gaming wiith the x1300 is a nice bonus, for serious gaming I go to my desktop, its a self built A64 x2 3800+ overclocked to 2.6 ghz,(4800+)2 gigs of ram and an overclocked 7900gt

Dells site says it should be here between wednesday and friday, I hate the wait, when I built my desktop, my antec 600 psu was back ordered, then ups gave it the scenic trip, I had everything ready to go for almost two weeks, aside from the psu, and top it off, it was DOA, talk about frustrating,
