Hey guys i just got a sony 37" tv and hooked my dell inspiron 1520 laptop up to it via VGA. I can't set it to full screen without it flickering so i had to reduce the output resolution giving me a border around the tv.

I read its a hz problem and that i need to increase the hz from 60 to 70 or higher. However in the dropdown menu on the laptop, there's only option for 60hz. There's no updated graphics drivers for the 8600m GT on Nvidia site.

I've tried playing around with the Nvidia Control panel but to no avail.

Having a border's not killing me, but it'd be nice to get a full screen without the flickering, any ideas?

    Here's my hardware
    dell inspiron 1520, Core2Duo 2.4ghz, 8600m GT 256mb
    Sony LCD TV KDL37S3100

have you tried other media player like vlc and messed about with there settings. i know mpc has an option to fix tearing. try a resolution that isnt ur full res then switch the hz. i know when i have my laptop hookt upto my external 24 monitor i have this issue i go down one and set it to 1600x1024 then switch ur hz,i get options from 60hz tp 100hz and im on intergrated gpu. then in wotever media player you can change the aspect ratio so it looks like it should.

You can download the latest nVidia drivers for notebooks from www.laptopvideo2go.com.
They are same (or newer) drivers found on the nVidia site, but has a modified inf file with device IDs of mobile graphics cards; without that file you cant install them on notebooks.
