Hey guys, I've been reading lately about the screens that come with the vostro 1500 and have been worrying about my future order. What LCD do you reccomend for me? I like the true life but I hope they dont send me the auo screen from what I've read. Is there anyway I can specify dell to send me the non auo screen? Thanks.

Well... i don't know about making them NOT give you an AUO screen, and the screen problems may not be limited to the AUO brand.

However, I haven't heard of any problems with the WXGA matte screens, and the WSXGA screens aren't made (for the most part) by AUO from what I've heard.

The problem is I go to school on sept 20th. And with the matte screen the ship date is the 11th of sept so i cant risk not getting it in time.

if you order a vostro it should ship by the ship date. in this case, the 11th. therefore, you'll have it before the 20th.

The monitor I have is a Samsung SyncMaster 930BF 19" LCD, running at 1028x1024. Which screen would be similar?

Your 19" lcd has a pixel pitch of .294mm, and a 15.4" WXGA (1280x800) would have a pixel pitch of .256mm, so the image would appear reduced in size by about 15% compared to your desktop LCD. Choosing a higher resolution like WXGA+ or WSXGA+ will result in an even further reduction. Oh, and as far as not getting an AUO display, you could simply choose a screen that AUO doesn't manufacture. They have a list of them all here.

It's just luck of the draw...I got an AUO in my 1420, and got a replacement for an unrelated issue and the replacement had an LG, and I liked the AUO 10x better than the LG...it's not just Dell either, it's the nature of laptops. And the problem is only a couple of people have a problem, it's just when they find the problem they post about it and then other people notice it when they would of never of realized it in the first place <_<
