    1. Remove the little bumpers on the screen by picking them off.
    2. un-screw the screws
    3. tighten the hinge screws
    4. Put it back togther.

if that doesnt work try tightening the screws that connnect the screen to the rest of the laptop.

    hope it helps!

It applies to all notebooks in general. If your screen hinges start to get loose, just check the screws. 99% of the time they'll be loose and a simple tightening will fix the problem. If you were to use some loctight, it would be a perment fix.

My son has a laptop in which the screen is coming off because of broken hardware (where screws go in).

What can be done about this? The laptop is in its third year, he bought it through his University in Sept. of 2004. He only purchased Dell Accidental Damage Warranty--I never received a copy of what the actual warranty covers. Probably does not cover this, with my luck.

    Thanks.

Broken hardware like the threads on the screw/hole are stripped? Or are some plastic components broken? Well even so, I dont believe you can only buy accadental protection, and not get a regular warranty, which this would be covered under. When I was getting my 1210, and was selecting my warranty, I was forced to match my accadental and regular warranty lengths. So I could have 2 years of standard, and 4 of accadental, they had to match or else it wouldnt let me continue and buy. So if he has 4 years of accadental, he must have 4 years of standard, which would fix this. But mabey there was only a 2 year warranty on it and its now expired. I would ask him and make sure. But if its no longer covered, or somehow never was, then I dont konw what could be done without having seen the problem.

you can contact dell re: length of warranty. just have your service tag # ready (sticker on bottom).

dell's default warranty is usually 1 year so unless you shelled out extra $ for the extended warranty, then you'r out of luck.

you could always try to find replacement parts and fix it yourself
