Just did a clean install on my inspiron 6000 to xp pro sp2 from xp home. I did something wrong though because xp home still exists, i know since it asks me which to boot everytime i turn on the computer. also the screen looks stretched, and i couldn't find any aspect ratio settings in display properties. answers greatly appreciated, thanks for your time.

To get rid of the reboot option, open your boot.ini from notepad and just get rid of the original os line.

To fix your screen, get new drivers from either ATI or Nvidia. Whichever is your vid card's manufacturer.

and the display property isnt going to give oyu aspect ratios.. it will give you the screen resolutions... when you did a clean install of windows did you manaull reformat the drive and all logic drives? sounds like you just installed over another previous os.

My suggestion: restore your pc to original setting (control F11 I think), then install Windows XP pro from boot (restart computer, F12, boot from cd) . Install it in the largest partition, don't delete the other two .

thanks for all the help...here's what happened.
originally i just installed pro over home and did something weird with the partitions...i had to do it again but now its right. i didn't know what i was doing i just rushed to get everything wiped clean. dell support said pretty much what u guys did. i just had to install some drivers. although its hard to understand what they are saying sometimes(4 of 5 people ive spoken with had clearly not grown up speaking english)they did bang out the problems. funny side note>i got on dell chat and the representatives name was "John". I had john email me a part of our conversation and his address was something like "radhiata saha".doesn't sound legal if u ask me
