Has anyone here upgrade their screen on a dell laptop?

I looking at getting a second hand vostro 1700/inspiron 1720 sometime soon and though i'd like 1920x1200 but it maybe hard to find on my budget so i though maybe id upgrade sometime later. I wondering if the connector are generic on most dell 17" and whether you can fit a 17" from an xps or a latitude say into an inspiron/vostro. any thoughts?

You're best off buying a screen that's specifically meant for the Inspiron 1720 or the Vostro 1700. I think the M1730 has the same display as well. It's quite likely that there are other displays that will work, but this sort of cross-model compatibility is hard to confirm, and therefore a crapshot to some degree. The 1720, 1700, and 1730 displays aren't hard to find, so there isn't really any reason to be puttering around elsewhere?
