Before i was looking at the 1530 because i heard so many good things before. Now i take a look at the 1520 and i notice i can get the same specs with a 300 dollar off coupon plus a 150 dollar gift card wow!

Is there any huge reason why the m1530 is so much better than the 1520?

The other thing is i notice you can still get the 1520 with windows xp and im hesitant to get vista yet because i hear how buggy it is. Also i figure i will have to upgrade to vista sooner or later so i still dont know which laptop to choose

    m1530 about $1300

    m1520 $1065 (with $300 off and $150 giftcard)

same specs for both computers except 1520 has windows xp (oh and also the 1520 has a 80gb hd but i dont care much about that)

I think the biggest difference here is simply the form factor.

The 1520 is a tank compared to the 1530, the former being something on the lines of near seven pounds fully configured and the latter being something on the lines of around six pounds. The 1520 also takes up more volume due to the wedge shape of the 1530.

Also, the 1530 has options for a LED screen and SSD if you care for it.

XP drivers for the 1530 will *probably* materialize themselves in due time, like they did for the 1330.

Really, it's only a difference of looks. It they both have the same specs, go for which one appeals more to your liking. I quickly found at that the XPS M1330 was more appealing to me than the Inspiron 1420.

The LED screen is not yet an option... ;)
I hope it'll become one in the near future though.

I'm surprised it isn't an option now, what with the success it had on the M1330.

Hmm, I just kept remembering people complaining about the lack of LED screens other than 1280 x 800... or something like that.

EDIT: Oh, that's the regular LCD o_O

    Wierd.

You might want to hang on and see when they release the 1525, allegedly its going to be this Friday but it seems an odd time to release a new machine, Im thinking it will be in January.

The other screen options will arrive for the 1530. Due to it's smaller thinner size, I assume that they need specially designed screen for it - more thinner then generic screens.

    ---- OP

Honestly besides for the looks, they are the same damn thing.. lol

I'd be concerned with the 1530 temperatures due to it's size.

One thing that sucks about the 1530, the dreaded slot loading drive. If you plan to use mini-dvd's from a camcorder in that thing, you'll never get them back once you stick them in. slot-loading drives don't support mini discs. But I must admit, that slot-loading actions is pretty sexy.. lol

As for windows vista. It's not buggy. I use it for work and theres no bugs. I think the only flaws are incompatibility with some software. But that'll work itself out - XP even went through the same problems. It's a great OS but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that plans to install it on a old machine. We're all gonna be on Vista anyways in a year or so.. Then we shift over to Windows 7! Yay, welcome to the vicious Microsoft circle.

Differences : Design , weight and graphics card.

8600M GT in M1530 is supposedly having DDR3 memory , therefore it should be significantly faster than the DDR2 version of 8600M GT (inspiron 1520). Going by 3D mark scores, DDR3 8600M GT scores close to 4000 (3D mark 2006) while DDR2 around 3000 (around 25% difference).

The initial estimated delivery date changes most of the time (usually for better). Check 5~6 days later to get a more accurate estimation. There is still hope ;)
