shipping experiences with dell?

Hey guys - long time dell user, first post.

I just ordered an Inspiron 6000, and have some questions about the whole shipping ordeal.

While the estimated ship date is December 23rd, the status page shows that it's already in the boxing stage. Is there a chance the laptop will ship early? A friend of mine recently picked up a 700m and his was shipped WAY before the estimated ship date.

Just wondering if this sort of thing is typical - I'd love to have my laptop before Christmas.

Generally, the laptops are always shipped early, but with the holidays, its hard to say whether it will be or not. It also depends on where you live. If you live in the states, boxing takes about 3 business days. If you live closer to Tennesse, you'll probably get yours fairly quickly since the laptops are shipped from Nashville, once they arrive in the states.

Mines shipped a month early. Preliminay date was 9th January 2006, and I ordered it 28th Nov.
Everything was done within a week, boxing took 3 days though.

 

Wow that is a long time to wait if it was accurate!
I ordered mine on the 15th of December and it is suppose to ship out on the 28th of Dec.

Personally in my own opinion I think Dell plans ahead for these rushes especially when they introduce the nice coupons like they offer right now.

I bet they already have XXX amount of pre-configured laptops and desktops already made in Malaysia with configurations they know are the most popular from past experiences and then they are put together in weekly shipments on a large boat.
Then when they get here in the US they are shipped to Tenessee where they are sorted and sent out depending on what is ordered.

I recieve international shipping every once in a while and it usually takes (on boat) 4-6 weeks from Asia to arrive, sometimes longer.

I have a hard time believing that they make them in Malaysia a few days after you order your specification and then they place it on a boat to get here in 1-2 weeks.

 

ok I ordered mine on dec. 10 (saturday).
next day it was done testing.
it was in boxing from dec. 11 (sunday evening) to dec 14 (wed evening).
shipped out from dell thursday morning. transit time 4 days for me. so i should get it on tuesday dec 20.
my estimated ship date was dec 20. so it shipped 6 days earlier than their estimate.

now heres where i am pissed at dell. i selected 2nd day shipping but on the order it came out to be ground. i called the next day after my order and they gave me "next day." and dell's estimated delivery was dec 16. but when it got to ups, they shipped it as ground since that was my original thing. dell's explanation: though we try to change the shippin method after an order is placed, we are often unsuccessful.

 

Ordered the 11th, rec'd it the 16th. WITH UPGRADES.

Couldn't be happier with the processing, shipping times.

All that and no interest for 12 months? HA!

Now to comb these posts, make a few of my own and decide what components I got shafted on. I've read some interesting info about which keyboard to have, which display to have and so-on.

I think it was Trooper or something like that. That guy posted some very valuable info on the 9300.

 

I ordered mine on Dec.16th. Ship date is suppose to be Dec. 29th. I hope it ships early. I feel like a kid at Christmas again If mine goes out early, would like to get it before the first of the year.

 

Yeah, I felt bad buying myself a toy at Christmas time. Fortunately this thing was under 12mo no interest

Best of luck. They'll send you an email showing shipping status once your order is processed. I rec'd my tracking info two days before it was to arrive.

This is my first laptop and sadly, I feel like my life is complete now.

ordered mine thursday, went into boxing somtime friday. do they still work on it saturday? my estimated ship date is the 28th, but i hope thats the extreme worst case. i got 2 day shipping, so hopefully it will get here saturday or earlier.

If it went into boxing on Friday it means that it is being shipped from Malaysia to the US and will be boxed then. Mine took 3 full business days to box which will be until Thursday, then it will ship from the regional center. Depending on if they do weekend delivery, if not you should get it on Monday. Just my experience though.

I actually ordered on Friday, December 16, 2005. Amazingly, it went into boxing on December 17th.

The estimated shipping date is Dec. 23rd, and with 2 day shipping the delivery date is set to Dec. 27th.

4 days? These people act like it's a holiday or something.

Ah well. Boats are slow - I'm not going to hold my breath for Christmas.

Well checked my order status this morning when I woke up and to my delight it has shipped already. Its in transit to the carrier so I should recieve mine probably Tuesday or Wednesday.
Pretty fast since I only ordered on the 15th and it shows shipped already.
What I said in the previous post is probably true.

i was supposed to get 2nd day (heck they even changed it to next day) but it only shipped by ground.

 

I noticed that also, I was suppose to get 2 day shipping but it shows up as ground.
I think they are sending them all ground because the original shipping estimate was suppose to be much later for my laptop and with all of the laptops probably already produced and sent here to the US weeks ago they can get away with economical ground.

 

So they usually ship ground regardless of what method you choose? That's pretty lame.

 

It is pretty lame, but if you were the company just think of the money you would be saving sending everything ground instead of air. $$$$$

 

Couldn't someone sue Dell for misrepresentation? I mean if they say 2 Day then they should ship it 2 Day. If they ship everything ground no matter what then they should not even have the other options available or maybe put up a notice that says becuase of the holidays, blah, blah, blah. I may have to look into this more. Wonder what the BBB would say?

 

On Dell's site they don't specify group or air, so that cannot be misrepresented. The holidays is always a individual case basis for the shipping industry and they can always hide behind workload, weather, etc.

The BBB wouldn't be able to do much about that either, it is in the agreement between the shipper and Dell. There is no miss representation because they give you the date is it supposed to be shipped, after they get confirmation from the Shipper then they give the "estimated" delivery date, which again is not garaunteed. If the shipper does not fulfill the requirements to Dell, then Dell can go back to them. You can yell at Dell but that usually doesn't get you anywhere.

If the date that you were supposed to receive the order has passed...call Dell and see what you can get out of them.

Well the holiday season is bad for anything going through the mail. I got mine early, but I got it earlier in the month.

 

dell told me to call them after i get my laptop and they will refund the $24

 

Well I just checked my tracking # and it looks like it will be coming to me on Tuesday the 20th.
It was shipped on the 19th (today).
Personally I dont care if it says ground shipping on UPS site or not as long as it gets to me in less than 2 days.
Lucky for me just one.

 

Yeah, but what if you paid for 2nd day shipping while it wasn't a freebie, only to have it shipped ground. You wouldn't be upset?

 

mine shipped ground, last wed. evening. I rec'd it by 2pm Friday. Couldn't care less if they put my laptop in first class and gave it extra peanuts or if it rode in the back of a truck with a buncha mexicans, as long as I got it by the promised date.

When my order was processed, it said scheduled shipping date was the 20th. Here it is, the 19th and I've already had it for 3 days.

I ain't complaining.

It's sorta pointless to get upset about something when there's nothing to get upset about yet. If you don't have your goods in 2 days, then be upset. Til then, kick back and browse for goodies to go with your new purchase.

Mine was in the same boat...I got next day...and mine was still shipped ground LOL...I called Fedex and they said it is on a truck coming up here. I mean I didn't pay for next day, Dell gave it to me, but still if I would have paid for it I wouldn't get mad that it is ground.

I don't care as long as it gets to me when they say it is supposed to.

 

Since it's free, I can't or won't get anywhere near "upset" about shipping, but if you pay for a shipping service and dell doesn't give it to you, they're ripping you off, plain and simple.

 

Just checked out to find that it shipped out today. Maybe by some miracle (and they stick to the 2 day shipping) I'll have it by Christmas.

 

Mine is still stuck at boxing. I ordered my I9300 on the 16th. Dang it!!! I suppose because I am all excited it will show up the estimated date of Jan. 2nd.

snyperx, I know exactly how you feel. I was the same way, but I had to cancel and re-place a new order because Dell messed up the last one. So don't feel too bad.

I ordered mine one day before yours and its on the UPS truck waiting to get delivered today.

 

Oh yeah!!! Well kiss my grits fresh-pop!!!! Just kidding. I know, this is all my fault, I should have pulled the trigger the same day you did. Oh well. I am hoping that maybe that the website isn't up to date and it is already on a truck. I have had that happen in the past. The Dell site says Boxing and the thing shows up at my door the next day. Hurry up and wait.

I ordered a Dell I6000 last friday morning(12/16) and I've been checking the status and it hasn't even progressed into production yet. Also, now the shipping day estimate has been pushed back from 12/26 to 12/29.

What's the deal?

Loaded on the truck a day earlier than expected. Only thing is, it hasn't arrived here yet. How late does UPS run?

 

You are on the east coast so I think they run until 7pm. At least that is how late my friend works at UPS as a driver here. I hope you get it tonight.

ive seen ups drivers out as late as 9pm.

I talked with one the drivers and he told me they have to deliver their load by the end of the day unless a business is closed.

 

Wow...that is nice...load a truck with 2x what he is supposed to be carrying and make him work all night. Well they get paid pretty good and by the hour...YAY for the OT

 

My shipping (UPS Ground, 2nd day) was quite smooth. Ordered it on the 15th. It entered boxing on the second or third day from my order, and from there everything was almost streamlined. The estimate was the 27th; I was supposed to receive it yesterday, but the date got pushed back one day. No problem, there. Anyway, I just got my B130 less than an hour ago. It's too bad I can't open it until Christmas Day. Oh, well.

I hope everyone gets their notebooks on time!

 

It's here everything is working properly.

I ordered on the 16th, and the original ship date was the 23rd, arrival on the 27th. (2nd day + christmas)

Then they shipped it on the 20th (early) with an estimated arrival of the 22nd.

It arrived today, the 21st, at 8:30pm. My expectations in terms of shipping have been blown away. Good job, Dell.

Now, time to format...

i got mine in the afternoon 4 days before it was supposed to get here, got it on the 6th of dec, supposed to get it on the 10th and ordered on the 30th of nov

 

I wish my 700m came early! It came on the day they said it would. The wait was torture...

Once I ordered a desktop from htem and it came like a week early. You never know. Seeing that its the holidays the probably have more orders so I probably wouldn't expect it to come that much earlier, but I wouldn't expect it to be late either.

 

I order my the 19 and got it the 23, How? i dont know i had 3 to 5 day shipping.
