i cant decide which one i should get. both are a $200 upgrade from the option under them. i would think the 2GHz processor would be better, because you dont have the option of matching the RAM to the GHz (667MHz). any ideas on what i should do?

i think i might just get the 2GHz processor, then get a 2gig card from newegg.

No matter what you do, you'll save money by simply by both from Newegg. That $200 is in addition to the cost of what you are already buying. You can sell your existing CPU and RAM on eBay.

If you're dead set on one or the other, I guess that depends on what CPU you would upgrading from and how much stock RAM the computer has. If the laptop comes with 1GB RAM and you really want to spend the extra dough, buy a faster CPU. If the laptop only comes with 512MB RAM, spend the money on a faster CPU and upgrade the RAM later...

Personally, I wouldn't give Dell any more money than you have to.

That's exactly what I would do. Get the better processor now and just upgrade RAM later...it's a lot easier and much cheaper than upgrading your processor. Also, by getting the RAM from newegg you are getting better RAM then Dell offers and at a lower price.

I recommend 2 Gigs of RAM rather then the processor as it would do you more benefit.

When Windows Vista comes around, you will probably benefit more with 2gb ram. But I would get the cpu, get 1x 1gb stick, and get another later like im going to do :)

can someone suggest and link (on newegg or wherever) the 1gb stick of memory that would be best to buy to bring the 1505 I'm considering purchasing to 2gbs?

also, how difficult will it be to install the memory? I have no experience cracking open notebooks.

    any help is appreciated, thanks.

I'd choose neither since there'll only be a minimal gain in performance, but if you have to choose, upgrade the cpu. ram is a lot easier to replace, and dell charges way to much for it.

Get the better CPU, and then upgrade the RAM later from newegg

the RAM is the easiest thing to replace on a notebook

I'd have to agree, upgrading memory takes about 3 mins, upgrading CPU can be a pain in the ass. Go for 2GHz CPU then get the memory later, also keep in mind it's a lot easier to find cheap memory deals than CPUs.

    Exactly

    The E1505 uses the 677MHz

And if you get 2 of the same size RAM sticks, it will be Dual Channel

Everything in this thread also applies to the E1705 d412k5t412, so just follow the link at newegg I posted above! Hope that helps!

Yes, you do not need to buy the pack, 2 single sticks will work the same
