My laptop was stolen so im considering to buy a Dell nb. I wanna wait for the new models of Dell. The new models, including INSPIRON 1720, 1520 and so on, havent released yet in the world wide, have they? coz i couldnt find any news talking about the review or release about them. But recently i found that a guy in China is using INSPIRON 1720... He posted it on 12 June and said he bought it from Australia. But im in Au now i cant find any place selling it. I really dont know where did he get the machine?!!!!

    here is the pictures :

I don't think Dell would be shipping systems that have "CONFIG3" plastered on t them

Looks like a preproduction sample. The keyboard shot makes it look like there should be a decent amount of travel in the keys. So that's 2 hard drives in there?

How do you know if the lid's glossy or not? It looks like it's covered with some plastic in those pictures....

Looks great and thanks for the pics Justin. But how do you know so much about it? is it your laptop actually being shown? ;)
The plastic wrap/cover is just for protection. it's just like the ones you get on the screen of a new cell phone.
I'm sure the "config 3" is probably something he put on..
Anyways looks great. A big upgrade is design, and they finally heard us at Ideastorm for the numberpad. But the BIG downfall is having the cd tray on the right side..how do you deal with it? you have to constantly move (i'd have to move mine-no room) the mouse. quite retarded.

It looks like the lid and palmrest both have a glossy coating, because you can see reflections on each. I am soooo not into that. Why did they have to copy HP? Couldn't they have copied Sony or Apple instead?

I'm not sure if that touchpad has enough vertical space, but maybe. The keyboard looks nice, as usual for Dell.

The glossy coating is not part of the laptop as many claim. Its a layer of protective film on top of the computer like when you buy a new Toshiba noteboook. Also, I suspect that the notebook is a test unit that someone managed to sneak out for some personal gain.

oh okay... Yeah, now that I look at the palmrest again, I can see what you're talking about. Well that's good, anyway.

I think it looks kind of like last years Toshiba's. There certainly is a glossy tint to it and the silverish keyboard does look nice. The glossy thing is so over done now and it just doesn't last in my experience with an HP Pavilion, but its not all bad. I was worried Dell would used the same paint or whatever Toshiba has used or had used in the past on the lids of there notebooks. Those lids are scatch fests. I myself am waiting to see the 1720's little brother.

seems like they order the keyboard from the same manufacturer with Toshiba.. those keys looks nice. The design is nice also.

    Hopefully it'll get thinner.

The Toshiba keyboard's I tried in store were pretty lousy. But then so too were the Sony's (Macbook style chicklets), and the HPs. I think in the past I've been pretty impressed with Dell, Apple, and Sony's older models :-/
