I just bought a new 1721 about 2 months ago. It was slow from right out of the box. It takes up to 4 minutes to bring up the desktop where I can use explorer. Once there it becomes fast while surfing. When I try to restart for any reason it takes 4 to 5 minutes to shut down, and at times I have to shut down manually. Is this normal for the 1721?
Thanks Gary![]()

Do you have alot of software installed?
and is your laptop running in the "power saver" plan?
p.s. what are the specs? -
Make sure it is set to "High Performance" in the Vista power modes. If it is, you probably have a lot of processes and/or software running that you aren't aware of and will need to be removed to get some of that speed back. You could bypass that process and jump straight to reloading Vista and just a bare minimum of drivers to see if that solves the sluggishness, but it is time consuming to back up your data and reload your software.
When I got my 1720, I immediately re-loaded Vista and installed just 5 drivers to get it fully functional. I'm pretty pleased with its performance.
