i'm just wondering if i don't like my m1330, if i can send it back or if dell actually charges 15% on returned laptops. please let me know...and don't just copy the terms from the dell website: they don't actually tell you laptops are part of the 15% fee...

What Mxxl said. Within 21 days, no restocking fee.

If you open the box, you might get charged -shipping- to return it, but not a restocking fee. If you dont open the box, then you dont have to pay anything.

My understanding (and experience) was 15% restocking free if the laptop is not being returned because of a technical problem.

you have 21 days to return the laptop opened or unopened. within that period, you will not be charged the restocking fee. if it is returned after that period, opened or unopened, you will incur the 15% restocking fee.

Yes, however, I've always been able to get them to waive it just by saying the laptop was incompatible with other hardware and such. If you don't have any kind of a reason, they almost always charge the fee, but if you have a decent reason (and a nice rep to talk to), I've usually been able to get them to waive it.

How does opened/unopened affect shipping charges? Was what I was told, correct?

Now, I haven't checked up on Dell's policy for a while but I also remember that after 21 days they will not return a notebook. There are few exceptions to that rule.

if it is opened you have to pay for shipping with the chance of being reimbursed/credited by Dell. unopened you dont have to pay any shipping fees due to DHL or UPS coming straight to your location and picking it up; they have special deals set up with Dell.

It has been my experience that there is a 15% restocking fee unless you have a valid reason (or really, any reason) to return. You are probably out shipping unless you can get them to have someone come pick it up (which happened in my case).

i got dell to take a return my inspiron e1705 by telling them i wasn't aware that the ati card i got was 128mb and not 256 since it is hypermemory and not dedicated. Now i'm gonna get a new 1720. Kinda sneaky but they wouldn't have taken my return unless they knew they were wrong. I confirmed that i am being refunded the full retail and tax. And i bought this way back in april.

I returned mine within 21 days and Dell sent UPS with a call tag to pick up the box. I was not charged for shipping or a restocking fee. They did screw up my refund, though--for some reason, my taxes were not automatically refunded so I'm waiting for that to happen.

If you just stress the point of free return shipping, they usually give it to you
