It was to replace his old desktop which blew up. I am trying to transfer his old harddrive into the new computer. Only problem is the old harddrive was an IDE. Is there anyway to make this work in an inspiron or is he SOL? Thanks

is there a such thing as an external ide usb enclosure? if there is, try that.

Get yourself a USB external enclosure. You can get one for like $20 off Newegg. After you transfter the stuff, you can format, and have an external hard drive to back stuff up on.

Yeah, its basically connecting it as an external hard drive.

So all I need to buy is a USB external enclosure? Stupid request but could someone just reference one for me. Cause knowing me I would probably find a way to screw it up
