I purchased a Vostro 1400 two days ago from Dell Canada.
I purchased through the phone by talking to a sales rep and my configuration came out to $988 before tax, same as it is online.
I asked the rep if he could give me a better deal, however he said that he cant because this notebook is currently on sale at $120 off. He also said that the deal is ending the next day and the price is going to go up.
Then after talking to his "manager" he dropped the price to $950.
Now today I checked the price online and it hasnt changed.
So basically he mislead me into believing that there was a limited time sale on the laptop so that I would purchase it faster.
Do you guys think I should call customer service and complain?
What do you think I can get out of this?
-
Ummm. if the order was placed you would have received a confirmation with the price. If it was changed, you would have received a new one. If you did not, call and ask for the manager directly by name and remind him/her of the conversation.
-
I dont think you understood me, the guy said that the price would go up the next day because it was on sale,
but the price didnt go up so i think he lied about the sale -
No he never lied...he has no control over that.
So what your saying is your not happy, even though you got it at the 120 off and then another 33 bucks off??? -
no man, he's saying that the price DIDN'T go up the next day like the rep said it would.
-
So what? You want to sue for 8 million dollars or something?
Whatever.
So do your comparison shopping today. If you find something better and/or want to cancel your order, then call and cancel it. If you don't find anything better and you still think it's a good deal, keep it. -
he said it was a sale for $120 off
he gave me $38 off
turns out there was no sale, the price never went up like he said it would
therefore he lied or misled me
so should i complain -
Yes, and the rep has no control over whether the prices went up or not. He/she may have been misinformed which doesn't constitute a lie in any form.
Its really a trivial post to start with. Is he not happy because if he was not 'misinformed' he would have been able to negotiate a better deal? The sale is under a thousand bucks complete. How much less do we really believe the system will be reduced?
Just giving my thoughts out here...
EDIT: Should you complain? lol. Put yourself at the other end of the phone. -
Blech. My sales rep lied to me about the high-res screens and the gift card, but I knew she was lying so I didn't care and ordered anyway.
She also told me it didn't come with the media remote. Seriously. -
-
I just think its unethical to tell a customer that the product is on sale to get them to purchase it faster when it actually isnt
-
However, as for what you should do... well, I gave my own personal opinion on that in previous posts in this thread. -
Ethics? What? Really? It is his job to get the sale. Thats like that in every business. Ever buy a car? Each and every car you buy will be 'the best car you ever sat in'. There have been so many extreme examples of misinterpretations and misinformations on this site by many manufacturers, yours doesnt even come close to being considered a valid entry (sorry but true). Thousands and thousands of Dell customers were misinformed about arrival times for their M1330s. So what! personally, I have 22 cancelled orders which took over 3 months to rectify. Ive been compensated very very well. Do you think they never lied or misinformed me whatsoever?
Its business. God I wish I could go into an electronics store and have someone speak the blatant truth about a product. -
The salesman did what he is paid to do. That's why I never deal with sales people. I research what I want before hand. Secure said item and go from there. Think Dell is bad? Have a walk into Future Shop or Best Buy and see what they are like. Or how about Radioshack and the Source.
You also need to factor in the sales person can be any schmo off the street since they look for low paid employees hence moving their call centers to India. Though the typical case would be salesman doing their job. -
There are a lot of Dell huggers here.... not a good place to complain about Dell. The Dell huggers will shoot you down as you can see. LOL
I've had good experience with Dell so far... I'm worried about this 1420 that is on the way though.
As for what can you do/ get out of it... I'm not sure if they'll do anything even if you complained about it. I bet they'll say sorry and tell you that they have no knowledge of future discounts and such... blah blah.
Never trust sales people. If he specifically said "The price WILL go down" then that guy is an a$$. -
Salespeople do lie a lot at most companies. Yes, I think it's unethical. I personally solve it by not listening to anything salespeople say.
Basically, this guy figured he could tell you the sale is ending soon, and get the commission himself. Or he could not say that, and maybe you'd call back and someone else would get the commission. Or maybe you'd buy from a different company. Who knows.
I personally wouldn't make it my problem. Keep the order if you still want it. Cancel it if you don't. Whatever. -
Im not going to cancel because of something like this but i might send them an email or phone call to see if i can pull out a freebie, might be worth a shot
-
You are entitled to try
Worse they can do is say no.

Try out this thread then if your looking that way big guy:

If you read through it you might get upset at all the lies (lol j/k) told by Reps. -
I don't know... I think it's unethical to take something that's not actually a problem and make it out to be a big problem so that you can get freebies.
-
lol I like that
-
-
I doubt it - but there could be another explanation. Supposing Dell setup their system to recognize you via cookies. Then when the prices goes up they may make a policy decision to show the old cheaper price to people who have already been offered that cheaper price. If that were true then the salesman might not have been lying.
-
I dont knwo what you are complaining about. You are not tied to the purchase for 21 days AFTER you recieve it. You can cancel at anytime. If you couldnt i see where you could possibly complain, but you have no complaint here. Dont like the deal, cancel the darn thing. Whats wrong with you.
-
Be glad you haven't met the worst. My CS rep wouldn't let me return my system that I recieved for 4 days even though I got CPU noise, uneven base, showing wires and more on my 1330. I tried persuade him to yelling at him. He wouldn't give me a RMA number or a return label no matter what, then there's nothing I could do. I called another rep later that night, then same thing happend. At the end he offer me a restock fee for return plus I need to pay for my own shipping, then I just hanged off.
Both sales rep were from India, and they weren't even listening to what I have to say. I am sure I won't be buying my next laptop from Dell again.
You had a good deal OP, so just enjoy it an forget about that tiny lie. -
-
Thats right. Find and call Dell XPS during the day and speak with a rep in the US. Explain your story and state that you have been treated like ****. if you have no luck, PM me and I will assist.
-
I dont care how big or small the lie is, they should pay up! -
-
speaking of good sale rep fibs - one rep told me the LED screen for the M1330 was dropped in canada because it was so bright it was giving people eye problems.
-
Thanks nizzy1115, flamenko, and outkastland for your advice. Maybe I should give it another try next week after the holiday, since last two times I called, I've been put on hold for almost fifty minutes each time.
