I thought you needed a dedicated card to run all the eye candy, I wasn't sure if GMA 950 was good enough

Don't count on it. If it runs, it may not run well enough to make it desirable. Success may be worse than failure in this case. Aero is utterly video-intensive. The better the card the better Aero will work. Marginal cards, even if they work, will produce poor results.

Hate to be a pessimist, but I've said it before and I'll say it again: I won't believe anything I read until Vista is actually shipping, even though Intel has been crowing about the fact that MS finally agreed to add support for it's integrated graphics. Too many features get changed/dropped/added between betas and final versions. Just look at how much stuff got booted out since Longhorn/Vista was first conceived until now.

According to all the documentation out there provided by Intel and Microsoft you would be able to run Vista on the 900, but not all the features of the new OS like Aero. The 950 seems to be the absolute minimum needed to just sqeek by, and if you've had any past experience with running software on absolute minimum hardware you'll know what that means its going to run like on the 950.

Aero uses the gpu to run the graphics sub-sytem rather than (as now) using the cpu. So how much system ram you have is will be beside the point for Aero. It is how much grunt and ram you have in the gpu.

What about the X1400? Would it be able to handle the Aero desktop without any issues like the 950 people are suggesting?
