Dell x1 overheats so much which the paintwork on the bottom starts pealing off! Also as you can see the bottom stickers have been washed off due to overheating. anyway what is the x1 material? after the paintwork peals off first I see shiny metal like material but few hours later it turns black.
    Thank you

That's just plastic, some sort of plastic. That's what plastic does too.

You probably also need to clean the laptop. That X1 used only passive cooling which is fine for LV and ULV products, but if the vents or heatsinks get clogged you are guaranteed to have trouble.

Vents? waht vents? as you mentioned x1 has passive cooling so there is no vents. heat just dissipates from bottom of the laptop.

I thought there was a vent or two to aid in passive air flow...shoot...

even if there was a vent how could they get clogged if there was passive cooling IE no fan blowing air through it? no dust would get caught in the heat sinks if there was no airflow.

It looks like you should also take better care of your laptop too.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally leave it in the oven?

For real, it looks like it's been through more than just computer heat

Believe me I'm one of those guys who treat their stuff very well. excessive heat causes the paint job to peal off. It seems this is a major problem in this specific notebook.

I don't think so. From the looks of it you are abusing the crap out of it and thats how it looks after being abused. I have a dell x1 and have no paint peeling off.

It depends on what r u meaning by abusing, I do lot's of my stuff with this notebook sometime it is on for maybe 6 hours, I also use it to watch films. I think there was a good reason that dell didn't continue manufacturing X1 or using the passive cooling system in its next ultralight notebooks such as D430.

Passive cooling relies on the forces of convection to move the air, because if there was NO air movement, everything would fry in an hour or so. Hence, dust will get in and accumulate.

That is like saying "Well no air really moves behind and under the couch, so I never have ot clean there!"

Anyway, your laptop looks pretty beat up, we should all be happy that is still works :D

There is not a single scratch on the LCD cover or keyboard layer cover, I have taken a good care of my notebook. I have taken a new pic of a fresh peeling. I think the notebook bottom material is obviously different form the top.
