hi all,
i've had my 1330 for about 5 months now and suddenly the sound quit coming out of the speakers. the headphone jacks still work, but the speakers do absolutely nothing. i've never had any speaker problems, so i think this is a software problem. i just installed the new bios (a07) and the sigmatel audio update about 2 days before this happened. please help if you can.
thanks,

no one has any ideas?

I would suggest reinstalling the sound drivers. If that doesnt work then call Dell.
-
i tried re-installing the new driver on the dell website, but nothing changed. anyone else having this problem?
-
if i go to control settings----sound----manage audio devices, it says my speakers aren't plugged in. what would cause this?
-
Check Device Manager and make sure the SigmaTel drivers are properly loaded, and not just "High Definition Audio Codec" (the generic Microsoft drivers).
-
yeah, both the sigmatel high def codec and the regular high def audio device are up to date and working. i found the sigmatel control panel and for some reason i think it's telling my computer to only output sound to the headphone jack. the only options it gives me for sound are headphone and speaker system, which i think is supposed to be an external speaker system...can't figure out a way to get the sound to go through my internal laptop speakers though...
-
just bumping it...
-
I'm not trying to be funny or anything but in all seriousness did you make sure you didn't accidentally hit/brush against the 'Mute' button? I've done this a few times and I've only had the laptop for 2 and a half days.
-
no, dude, it's not on mute. the actual sound device manager says my speakers are "unplugged"
-
Have you tried going to Add/Remove programs, uninstalling the SigmaTel driver and then installing the new one again? Not just overinstall?
-
still having problems after multiple re-installs...

This is driving me nuts, I have the exact same issue. It comes out of my headphone jack, but not my speakers. This is on a friends M1330...
I did just experiment with Linux...and I admit a OSx86, I am betting one of those two disabled something, this pisses me off.
Ok, I did something new, that fixed it.
My problem was that my drivers wouldn't install, and nothing was working, so I went to the device manager right clicked and manually updated my driver with the drivers from dell's site using the inf. Now sound works with the default and sigmatel driver!
sound problem on m1330
