So your saying the drivers for the 1525/1530 will work on my 1520 and they will let the SP1 show on my Windows update?
Also, to make sure, THIS is the correct driver?
-
Weird, this time coming out of sleep, it changed the font to all huge letters (kind of like safe mode). Didn't fix itself until I restarted. Wonder if this is a one time thing or just some new fun with Vista SP1.
-
Ok, I may have solved the sleep resolution change issue.
I first updated to the latest NVIDIA driver from dell's website. Still had the issue. Still, probably a good idea to have the latest drivers anyway.
Then I found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945459/en-us
Seems turning off TMM works (or at least worked once so far). One note: you'll want to restart the computer before disabling TMM, and then restart after you make the change. Then try sleep mode. Should work. -

Thanks. -
Cool - thanks for the info.
So any 1400/1420, 1500/1520, 1700/1720 with discrete Nvidia graphics can update using the Sigmatel driver for the M1530 to allow install of SP1. Users with Intel intergrated graphics will need a newer driver than those referenced by MS as well. -
if I have a brand new xps m1530 why cant I see the SP1 update?
-
Have you updated the fingerprint reader from the link in this thread?
-
So be sure to update all drivers and update the fingerprint reader driver. It will show the Vista SP1 update on Windows Update. It's painless anyway. I don't see any difference except all programs, bootup, transferring, speed have gone improvement. -
I cannot get Dell to provide a new enuf ver. of Mobile Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset driver.
support.dell.com only has this release which is too old. Where did you get the latest version?
Production Version Release
Microsoft Windows Vista*
Driver Revision: 15.7.0.1364
November 12, 2007
TIA,
Dave -
I assume you mean the Intel GM965 Video driver rather than the chipset inf.
Latest Intel Vid driver can be found here -
This is error in log: !!! ERROR 0x14: Installed driver uses 4IDs and installing driver uses less. Get driver from manufacturer website.
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with Vista Home Prem. -
Doh - guess it needs to be a Dell driver then.
A little bit of digging shows a newer Dell Intel Vid driver for the i1525 (version 7.14.10.1409). Try that. Download here. -
it tell me the computer does not meet min requirement for this s/w
Log:
!!! ERROR 0x7FB: No INFs found that match the active devices on the system.
The driver seems to be only for the Inspiron 1525 -
Unfortunately looks like you are waiting for Dell to release an updated Intel vid driver before you can update (you can ofcourse use the generic driver and WU may even offer an MS driver with better functionality than the generic if you dont want to do anything too video intensive, if you want SP1 now)
-
Thanks for all your help.
I chatted with Dell tech support and was able to get the driver updated and SP1 after following their advice: Reboot into Safe Mode and Uninstall current driver, install winvista_1573.exe and then reboot. When I went to WindowsUpdate, SP1 was there -
hey
I had troubles as well
I just bought a xps1530 and done a system install as it was full of bloatware. I then updated my system via auto update and then updated the fingerprint reader, then restarted.
Once booted up again, do another check for updates, this then might show some other new updates, if yes repeat and re-start.
Then do another update check and this then brought up SP1 for me.
This is my first laptop, and found it quite easy to get SP1.
P.s. make sure all other drivers are up to date before you do all this eg.nvidia and soundcards ect..
Good Hunting -

The only problem to updating a Vostro 1500 with Nvidia graphics should be the Sigmatel audio driver. Update with the M1530 Sigmatel driver and you should be able to see SP1 via WU.
-
It's been a few days, and have run into a few minor problems. Some programs seemed a little slow. F3 fnc for battery meter did not work. Could not log-into wireless router, and just a couple of other "odd" things. (ie sometimes internet speed was way low).
As I mentioned earlier there was a BIOS update from A08 to A11 for this machine.
Yep that was it. Fixed all problems 100% AND the machine now runs faster than ever. F3 for battery meter is back, log in to router in a second, video streaming is faster than ever, etc etc.
The key was knowing that Dell release the BIOS update just about 2 weeks before the sp1 mass release.
So anyone running AMD chip, with sp1, and stuff is slow and/or not working correctly, look for a BIOS update. -
Still waiting on an official sound chip driver which is listed for my sound card are Dell working on one for the 9400? its been over a month!
-
Is it a Sigamtel chip?
IDT (now owners of Sigmatel) just advise uninstalling the old one, let Windows install the MS driver on reboot, install SP1 which should now be avaiable via WU if thats's the only driver stopping it and then reinstalling the same driver you've been using pre-SP1. -
Odd thing to suggest tbh why on earth did MS class the file as bad if it still works that way?
Dell must surely be after an update as there will 10000's of people if not more who know nothing about this you know "joe public". tbh its a mess how MS has released SP1, WU should at least say whats wrong so most people know what is going on.
MS FTL ;/ -
Vista changed the way the audio stack works and SP1 continues that tradition so you need the audio stack updating before reinstalling the audio driver on top.
MS classes it as "problematic" which for most part just needs the driver reinstalling. MS to be fair have put a lot of info out there about this - Dell should really be the one to pass it on to their customers.
The driver for the Inspiron/Vostro series and the driver for the M1530 are newer than those referenced by MS so you could try one of them should you want to. -
dont worry about it guys
I have had the SP1 on my dell XPS 1530 and Do not see one bit of difference,
I only game and download and check internet, bla bla bla
It is so so hyped up, dont stress.
Trust me, No graphics changes, and have not noticed any speed increase, M/S ARE JUST FIXING THE S*&T THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE. -
And thats reason enough to have it.
The better file transfer and quicker WiFi performance are worth it to me too -
Most of the changes are under the hood.
Of course it's worth it. -
I don't believe I have SP1 and it is not automatically updating...how do I know if I have the driver that doesn't let me automatically do it? Where do I look, I mean?
-
http://support.microsoft.com/KB/948343 for a list and versions of problematic drivers.
To find out which driver using can vary but best to start in Device Manager (Control Panel, Device Manger, double-click on the hardware and look at the driver tab). If the hardware has it's own Control Panel applet or GUI component you can usually find the version there to by using "About"). -
Well last night i uninstalled my sound drivers and restarted the PC it then saw SP1 and downloaded it and after the reboots it installed a default sound driver, i then re-installed the same Sigmatel/Dell sound driver i had as its the newest for my system atm, IDT say this is fine to do as stated above.
All seems to be working fine so far.
Still find this piss poor as most "normal" PC users wont know about this and wont install SP1 for a long time or if ever!
Poor show MS! at least make WU say whats wrong! so the user can sort it if they dont know they aren't getting SP1. -
Downloaded and installed SP1 yesterday... without a hitch.

XPS M1530, UK, delivered mid February 2008.
I have been waiting for SP1 on windows update for the last month.
Last night, after checking my drivers against link #80 earlier in this thread (thanks Steve) I discovered that my UPEK fingerprint sensor needed a driver Tcusb update.
Version 1.9.2.99. was required.
I had version 1.9.2.93
I downloaded version 1.9.2.111 from the UPEK website.
When I next checked for windows updates, SP1 was shown.
Total time for download and installation was about 90 minutes.
I have noticed no difference yet, except that there is a lot more space on my C: drive now! -

for all of us with sigmatel drivers, apparently creative provides them. if you go to sound properties and click on driver details, the driver file details states that creative provides the drivers. i guess we either have to 1)wait for MS, 2) wait for dell to update, or 3)wait for creative to make new ones?
-
Dell has updated their drivers already, so just find it on their website

i know it's silly, but i'd prefer to use the drivers dell has signed for the 1420. the 1/2008 driver date is listed for 1520/1520 and xps 1530s. I know I can still install them, but I'd prefer to have some patience and wait to the officials make it official.
-
Creative have shares in Sigmatel but they aint responsible for the day to day running or driver production. That's down to IDT.

My driver for Biometric is: 1.9.2.111 (which I updated from a link someone gave me here.
Windows ( http://support.microsoft.com/KB/948343) says I need:
"UPEK Fingerprint Sensor with the Tcusb.sys driver file – version 1.9.2.99 or earlier"
Obviously mine is earlier. When I try to "update driver" in device manager it says mine is the current driver. How do I find the new version?
I downloaded this:
( http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/drivers/windows.asp) and it didn't update after I "installed it" -
I tried both installing it and physically replacing the tcusb.sys driver file with the correct one...it still pops up as 1.9.2.111...advice?
-
anybody????
-
-
1.9.2.111 is the latest version, so you are right up to date.
1.9.2.99 is the earliest acceptable version of the driver.
(Version 111 is more recent than the earliest version 99 that was required for SP1).
BTW, SP1 has gone well since installation, my laptop just feels notably faster.
Good Luck
sp1 for dell laptops?
