    Hi,

I recently purchased my Dell E1705 and it's great. It's sitting on my desk where my old PC monitor used to sit, and it's surrounded by my old PC's sound system (Altec Lansing 5.1 system). I just wanted to know if I could purchase an adaptor for my laptop as there is no place to plug the tricolored wires into the soundcard ( picture of what I'm talking about)

I'd really like to be able to hook these speakers up to my laptop. Thanks.

The image you have provided looks like the back of your desktop computer. I don't see how its relevant to you wanting to hook up your 5.1 speaker set to your notebook. Correct me if I am wrong.

You can't really really connect up a 5.1 sound system to a notebook without the help of an external soundcard. Even if you could, the sound would be terrible since there isn't much power driving the speakers. Since you own a new Dell, you can't get a PCMCIA soundcard, so your options are restricted to the USB ones out there. The alternative is to get a docking station that can accept inputs for center, front and rear speakers.

Well, the M1210 actually has 5.1 outputs like these. But not the e1705.

You need an USB sound card, or you can get a Sondigo Callisto ( http://www.sondigo.com/callisto) and use a digital S/PDIF connection, if the speakers support that.
