I ordered my Inspiron E1705 on August 2nd and now I read on the status page that the predicted shipping date is 21st-23rd of August :( that's altogether like 3 weeks.. wtf
(ok sure it has to be shipped to Germany, but common Germany is as close to China as the US is.. depending if you go left or right ;)) dang!
any thoughts? (yeah I know, sucks to be me hehe)

It'll probably come earlier. Check the status page on Dell's website. I got my e1505 within 4 days, but I live in the US. Still, I bet yours will be in your hands within a week, just keep checking the status.

Look how far along in "production" it is, that should give you a good idea, don't just go by the date at the bottom.

Why would it come from ireland? Dell makes their laptops in China and ships them all over.

If Dell had a place in ireland, then why would they not ship things to the US from there instead of China, its a lot closer specialy for the east coast.

For the European market, Dell laptops are assembled in Ireland while for the US & most of the other markets, Dell laptops are assembled in Malaysia.

You'll probably get it sooner. Mine was expected to arrive in two weeks but instead it came in 6 days, including a weekend.

I ordered my E1705 on the 4th of Aug. and was told that it was still in the 'testing' stage. I am also dreading the infamous 'boxing' stage. The estimated/supposed ship date is the 17th.

I kept it simple: T2500 (2GHz/667MHz FSB), 17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA, 1GB (DDR2, 667MHz), GeForce Go 7900 GS, 60GB 7200RPM SATA, etc... Didn't order any extra software or peripherals.

I hope that I recieve the laptop soon.
