depends where you spilled it. Was it on the keyboard or screen? If the laptop does not work then you probably are screwed but if you brought it in the last 30 days then just return it saying the screen is rubbish quality.

Where did you spill? What have you done so far?

Remember, making fake warranty claims/lying is fraud.

An expensive lesson as to why to not be eating ice cream over a laptop :(

At least if it were a desktop, at most the keyboard would be dead, but with a laptop the whole thing could go. I'd advise leaving it off for a day or so to let it dry out, and maybe take the keyboard off and see if it got in anywhere else after that. You could probably clean the keyboard out.

when you spill something on a laptop. immediatly:

    pull the plug
    pull the battery
clean up surface spillage. if its liquids let it drain upside down WHILE you quickly take your laptop apart as fast as you can.
piece by piece clean/towel dry every part.
if its a really liquid material, let those pieces air dry for at least a day or so. DO NOT USE A HAIRDRYER!
then put it back together and see if it works.

    Major bummer, man...seriously :(

But don't give in without a fight!

If Dell refuses to cover the warranty, I strongly recommend that you contact the law firm of Baskin, Baskin, & Robbins.

They specialize in this and 30 other flavors of the law

It doesn't matter. Dell doesn't have to know what happened. Just tell them it doesn't work.

it's probably ont he keyboard. I don't see where else it would go.

Take the keyboard out, give it a Rubbing alcohol bath (91%).
Let it air dry for a day or two.

    Of you go.

All vostros in australia come with one year complete cover which includes spills and accidental damage.

Im guessing its not the same over where you are? how much is it to get complete cover? cant be that much if they offer it as standard over here.

Technically, it covers 'liquid spills', so i guess you'll just have to say you were drinking sugared milk. haha

I don't think he actually meant vanilla icecream.

Anyway, you probably won't get the warranty covered for it. Take Nizzy's advice for all spills on your laptop, its the only thing you really can do.

My complete care covers Neopolitan, but there is a sub-clause that says no individual flavors :p

if you can clean her up pretty good, its worth a shot, but just be careful in the future.

I don't even think it would count as aqueous, I believe milk itself is a suspension of a few different things (fat, protein, sugars, etc.)

Take it apart, and clean all the parts that got spilled on with distilled water, then dry them. That's your best bet.

Quit eating food while hovering over your laptop.

Go to radio schack, get a can of contact cleaner, then a can of air, hit it multiple times and can air dry. If nothing is shorted, you'll be fine and if touching any pc's make sure your grounded to prevent ESD.

Spill some "Vodka on the rocks" on it... couple of times if necessary... then let it dry and you should be good to go :)

I think any good vanilla will have black specks from the vanilla beans, the imitation vanilla flavored ice cream would be speck free.

Hey, there's a guy over at the Dell Community Forum that just spilled juice on his notebook http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_general&thread.id=257723 Maybe we should all go over there and harass him :D
