could someone explain this to me?
i went to www.laptopvideo2go.com and theres a bunch of stuff to download, i dont know where to save and all that junk, and ive read their install process but i still dont really understand it.
then for overclocking, i dont really want to get really intense about it and whatnot but i just want to know how to do it.. someone said there is a clock frequencies menu thing when u go to the display tab and the videocard thing but i dont see it..
could anyone help me out?

I would go to www.tweaksrus.com and install the latest Xtreme-G drivers. They install very easily...and offer just about the best performance out there. Nothing complicated about them. Just uninstall your old drivers (from add/remove programs) and then double click the Xtreme G executable (make sure you select laptop and Geforce6 when it asks you during the install).
You will then have the clock speed tab in your display properties. (you will NOT have the tab when your using Dell's drivers -unless you ran the coolbits registry hack)
I would recommend you also check out a program called Driver Cleaner Pro (google it)...and use that to uninstall your old drivers. It may not be totally necessary...but it doesnt hurt. It makes sure your system doesnt have any conflicts when switching to different driver versions. (It whipes out all the stuff left over from add/remove programs)
To overclock, go to your new "clock frequency settings" tab and hit "detect optimal frequencies". This will give you the systems "best guess" as to what it can run. I would knock it down a bit from that though..just to be safe. I have mine clocked at 330/675 and have been playing Doom3 and Chronicles of Riddick with no overheating problems at all (those are, by far, two of the most demanding games out there).
My performance has SIGNIFICANTLY increased after overclocking and switching from thier drivers. Dell has thier drivers really crippled (and their clock speeds are set very low from the factory). They probably do that so that they could sell more XPS's.
Let us know how it works for you... -
1. download the laptopvideo2go modded .inf file and nvidia drivers you want. try the 77.76 ones.
2. extract the nvidia.exe to a folder using winrar (or what ever program that can extract an .exe's content).
3. copy over the modded .inf you downloaded into the above folder deleting the original.
4. uninstall existing nvidia drivers. (will require restart)
5. after you reboot windows will find new hardware.
6 follow these instruction once complete. it may not say geforce2 go (dell modile)

you will now have more options in the nvidia control panel (including overclocking).
if you have any problems ask in this thread. -
rebul,
i have some questions. how did you pick the numbers 330/675 and not maybe...331/676. is there a rule for the numbers, i noticed people always have different numbers. also what are your peak temps. after an hour i get to about 56, i idle around 47-48.
thanks. -
I had Nvidia 'detect optimal frequencies'...which came back and told me 349/709. I knocked it back to 330/675 just to be on the safe side. I know I could run it higher...but why? If Doom3 is already giving me over 60 frames per second at 1440x900/high quality....then I would rather not push the GPU further than I need too. It wouldnt make a difference if I choose 331/676. I choose 330/675 because it sounded good to me. There was nothing technical about those numbers.
I idle at 44C...and peak in the mid 50C's...after an hour of Chronicles of Riddick. As long as it stays in the yellow...I dont get too concerned. -
i dl'd them from tweaks r us and oc'd it to 327/685
i ran 3dmark with the system the way it was right out of the box and got 3250 or so
and i ran it after the driver and oc and i got a score of 3709
i gota try running it after i reformat and upgrade the ram
should i check always run fan and or apply these settings at startup?
still dont really understand the concept of overclocking and the updated drivers..
