I have a new battery for my Dell Inspiron 6000. I am able to charge my battery then unplug the power adapter for the notebook and use the notebook until the battery is almost dead. But, when I plug the adapter back in, then it will not charge at all unless I remove the battery and replace it (just pop it out and push it right back in). Does anyone have ideas how to resolve this issue? Thank you for your help.

    More information:

When I purchased my Dell Inspiron 6000, I ran Windows XP and after one year my original battery died. I used the power adapter and never replaced the battery for some time. I recently (before the new battery) did a clean install and started running Windows Vista. Then, I got a new battery.

I also have problems where the battery only charges to 90%, then I pop it out and put it right back in. It will charge another percent or two. So, I have to do this a couple of times to get a higher percentage, say 96-99%. Only once in a dozen charges did it reach 100%.

Could someone please tell me if the situation described in my first post sounds like a hardware issue, a problem with the new battery, or could it be an issue with Vista?

I have 2 GB ram, 128 MB graphics card,...
I am not sure what else would be beneficial information.
