Is there a big difference between the 1397 and intel 5300 wireless cards?

    A true difference?

There's a big difference if you have an 802.11n router, considering the Intel 5300 can connect to N, and the Dell 1397 (a rebranded Broadcom card) is limited to G. :p

Then there's the antenna configuration. The 1397 is limited to 2x1, the 5300 can do 3x3, and thus can reach significantly higher connection speeds when paired with a capable router.
