lurked here for sometime and before i go any further would like to take time to thank those who helped solve some of the mysterys of laptop buying for me. may not have made a purchase without that assistance. Ya did good!

have noticed a scuffing or marring on the plastic cover that surrounds the speakers. this is about 1.5" from right hinge. there about a 1" long area that is showing. did not notice when i first used the unit, but in opening and closing the lid is probably causing this. tried sliding a piece of printer paper thru space along back of unit, plenty of clearance until the area of concern. no space here, so i can see why this is happening. the more it is opened and closed the more wear and tear. has anyone else noticed anything similar to this? at this time it looks to be just cosmetic, but how much worse might it become? this is my concern. could i be to picky about this? any info and comment appreciated. thanks

Yeah, when I opened the box mine had some scuffs in the same place...probably originated in assembly. I was disappointed as to how it was packaged too. Most things this expensive come with all that protective plastic on them and this was just wrapped up in a thin sheet of foam! Talk about quality...

i don't think i have that, but for some reason, under my lid near the air vents, there's like this blue paper or something stuck in there. just a little bit though. but what the hell!? it's really annoying because you can see it.

and i noticed that i have a little bit of a white mark or something just above the slot drive. it's like paint or something. it's not too bad, but again, just annoying.

I have the same issue with the scuffing. Also the other day I was putting my Studio in its sleeve (where it lives when it's not on my desk) and I noticed that the hinge cover had come open. I popped it back into place, but it's come open a couple times since then as well. And the whole front of the case is loose from the top panel of the laptop. Keyboard has a lot of flex. Not to mention the e-SATA port that shouldn't be there if they're not supporting it yet.

My question I guess is should I call Dell? Will they just tell me that it's too bad for me or will they actually do something to make it better? I need the computer for school so I don't want to actually have them make me send it in if it's not going to be worth it at all.

I haven't noticed any scuffing or scratches in the area you've mentioned. Another comments though on the Studio 15 workmanship, the upper plastic part in the lower right hand rest area came lose from the bottom half of the lap top. I pushed it back in, and that was the last of that since then. Also, if you look at your monitor, and below that where the rubber studs come out about two or three inches from the side, my left one fell out.

gosh what the heck. i forgot to say too, the bottom right of my keyboard (where the arrows are) have so much flex too. i thought it popped out when i first got it, but i'm just trying to be careful with it.

i hope my system won't fall apart! :(
