    Hello,

    I will have a studio 15. I would want to know if the "Dell Wireless 1397 MiniCard" is working with ubuntu (hardy).
    Maybe with Ndiswrapper but there is no drivers for XP.

    Hello Niva, welcome to the forum! I'm not sure if that specific card works or not, but you might try Auto-NdisWrapper: https://launchpad.net/auto-ndiswrapper. I haven't used it yet, but it is supposed to make it very easy.

    Linux mint, based off of Ubuntu, picked up my wireless card right from the start. I didn't even have to install drivers!

    @niva ...

    it uses a broadcom bcm4310 usb controller rev(01) ,,, i tried to install .. .initially it worked... but it stopped later .. i used ndiswrapper and winodws xp drivers for broadcom chip

    broadcom chips have a history of troubles...

    so when by august 15 dell starts supporting ubuntu officially ..we can finally get a stable driver(hope so !!)

    dell has offered a ubuntu 1525 for quite awhile now. However they offer only the intel wireless chipset in those ubuntu equipped laptop. Broadcom chip sets are the biggest pain in the butt to get working with ubuntu from my experience. There are like 50 different ways to do it, and only 1 of the ways MIGHT work for your specific system. Generally speaking, it's a very big headache.

    Never got the ndiswrapper to work properly on 64 bit ubuntu but found that broadcom has released a linux driver which I got going in a few minutes.

    Mine was the Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)

    http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php

    Spent ages trying different drivers with the ndiswrapper to no avail, wish I had found this link earlier.
