bought dell studio 17 with t8100 processor. as soon as it is switched on fan kicks in every 2 minutes whilst on internet and stays permanently on whilst using a program.
phoned dell spent half an hour on phone trying to resolve issue. eventually sent it back has just had it returned saying replaced fan and heat sink, it is exactly the same. if not worse. is this just normal for a studio 17? can anyone give me any feedback on there studio 17. other laptops i have worked on in work are not like this, takes ages for fan to kick in and only when using lots of processing power. any advice?

No that is not normal for that model which I have as well, including the exact same processor.

My fan rarely comes on, even when playing demanding games. I have never even heard my fan go higher than medium unless I manually turned it on with I8kFanGUI.

If you already sent it back once, I would ask for a refund if they do not replace the entire unit and risk wasting more of your time.

I had a problem with my fan - nearly always on. They replaced the motherbaord and kept the same cpu and fan - all is fine now

My fan seems to go on for a period like 5 mins at the really low speed and then stay off for 5/10 mins. But I check the temperatures of my GPU, CPU, HardDrive etc using HWMonitor and they seem really cool like everything is always under 50C. Is this normal??
