I'm getting conflicting information on a couple of things about the latest incarnation of the studio17:

+ does it have an e-sata port? I saw an older one at Best Buy that had an e-sata port, but the dell specs page says nothing about it. In addition, I asked a salesperson on the phone and she said there was no e-sata. Did they get rid of it?

+ what speed does the memory run at on the newest 17s? They explicitly say they are selling DDR2-800 on the configuration pages, but the specs page says "DDR2-667".

Here's the specs page I'm referring to:

    Thanks!

    1) Don't think it has an e-SATA port. The unit NBR reviewed (arguably one of the earlier ones; this was at the time of release) didn't have an e-SATA port.

    2) The Studio 15 and 17 had motherboard revisions somewhere in the middle of their lives. Earlier units had 965-Series chipsets and later versions have 45-Series chipsets. Units with 965-Series chipsets will only run memory at 667MHz and units with 45-Series chipsets will run memory at 800MHz. If you buy a unit new today, you are likely to get one with a 45-Series chipset; don't know about Outlet, eBay, etc.

    1) I have a Studio 1735, and it has an eSata port.

    2) It is an older version and memory runs at 667mhz. newer models will run at 800mhz

Okay, thanks. Still not sure on the e-sata on the newest 17 (1737?). So now we know that at some point they had e-sata (yours, and the one I saw at Best Buy), but the web site doesn't mention it, and the salesperson said "I don't think so" on the newest. Anyone actually have a new one and can confirm one way or the other?

    Thanks...
