You do know you can cancel your orders? How much did you spend?
-
I know I can cancel it...and I spent 850 which I know isn't a crazy amount but it still is a lot of money to pay for something that sucks.
Hopefully it's not as bad as some ppl are saying... -
It sucks, got mine today and the top keys don't work among other things. It's going back tomorrow.

I did a fresh vista install and re-installed all the drivers myself. I built all my previous computers so I know what I'm doing. People come here to find fixes for their problems, of course you'll see a lot of angry "reviews". My speakers are fine, the keyboard has a flex only if you press 3 times harder then you'd normally do while typing. The thing runs cool, the backlit keypboard has come in usefull more then once (surprisingly), lighter and not as bulky as I thought it would (my friend had a 14" HP that weighs just as much).
Compare to other manufacturer Dell will keep their drivers list up to date. Like I said a friend of mine has an HP and it was just annoying trying to do anything with their drivers, takes more time to get things ready.
Before buying this I was ready to buy a much more expensive laptops with cheaper hardware for way more, like a MacBook Pro and Sony Vaio. I'm glad I didn't. I think you're having buyers remorse, saw a lot of that working retail back in the day. It's especially hard to spend a lot of money and have to wait for it. You'll like it, if you have issues with it just let me know. -
I, too, think I'm experiencing buyer's remorse. I'm worried about some of the stuff I'm hearing, but do understand that more people will complain about a product than praise it.
That being said, I have still been looking into other options. However, I'm having a hard time finding anything that beats the price of the Studio without downgrading the specs:
Studio 1535, Intel Core 2 Duo T5750, 2.0GHz, 667Mhz, 2M L2 Cache
3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
Back-lit Keyboard
Hi Resolution / Bright, glossywidescreen 15.4 WLED LCD (1440x900) w/ 2.0M pixel Camera
ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3450
320G 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium Edition, English
8X Slot Load CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini Card
Integrated Finger Print Reader
Good deal for $879? -
I posted this elsewhere, but I feel you should read it if you haven't already.
MANY people (a majority in my opinion), that buy laptops in this case, come on these forums to talk about problems because it is the only place where people may be able to relate and it is a good place to vent. You don't see so many good comments because the MANY other people that are happy with their Studio have absolutely no reason to come on and talk about how happy they are with it. People who buy laptops and are content have no reason to be on here unless they enjoy discussing their laptops, and most people don't really see a need or have a want. -
Also this is a dell and there is a stigma that goes with that. People expect quality when they buy a dell. Things that might go unnoticed on other laptops get huge criticism in a dell.
Fact of the matter is, at the moment there is really nothing else out there I can think of that has the options and the style for this price.
Wait until you get your laptop, if you hate it send it back. If you love it come post about it to offset the negative posts -
I also ordered the studio 15 also and hearing about all this negative feedback is giving me second thoughts. i was thinking about canceling it and going with this hp at office depot but then again i want the studio 15 because of the specs i got on it.
how does the return policy go? if i open it, etc.. -
21-Day Return Period for Certain Hardware and Software Products and Accessories: Unless you have a separate agreement with Dell, or except as provided below, all hardware, accessories, peripherals, parts, and media-based software that is unopened and still in its sealed package or, if delivered electronically, that has not been downloaded, may be returned within 21 days from the date on the packing slip or invoice for a credit or a refund of the purchase price paid, less shipping and handling and any applicable restocking fees.
Restocking Fees: Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, Dell may charge a restocking fee of up to 15% of the purchase price paid.

well.. the problems are pretty minor aren't they, bad speakers... wad's the biggie deal bout speakers anyways.. like i posted before somewhere... speakers are of the least concerned thing to me when choosing a laptop.. i'm more concerned bout not paying extra bucks for quality and branded built in speakers... how loud could u get with those branded built-in speakers anyway... i would rather spend some money for a good set of external speakers
keyboard flex... it's not like ur keyboard will break into half or something... it's not that bad till you're gonna type wrong letters...think optimistically... i like to think of it as a cushion for your fingers when typing..
i mentioned before (somewhere) that sometimes my dvd drive makes this awful helicopter sound.. i found out that it was because my disc was not in a very good condition... even better, this made me wanna protect the surface of my discs better
so far.. i'm loving it... been wiping it everyday...
the CPU temperature peaks at 60C when playing half life 2 episode 1 (with everything on MAX and i was able to play it smoothly)..
if you're more concerned bout current and future gaming, go for XPS which is a line for "Xtreme Performance System"... Dell Studio line is a better laptop for video encoding and photoshop... hence the word 'Studio' (although it does mean they should haf better speakers too.. but whatever..)
what i'm trying to say is.. Dell Studio is a beautiful piece of machine that needs to be treated right..
if there's any BIG problem (unresponsive touch keys.. bulging keyboard.. etc), contact Dell, they will help you out.. and as for the minor problems (speakers etc).. well, i work my way around it..
Love your studio and everything will be fine
