in ordering the 1705 notebook what warranty would you recommend going with and how long for :
how many years at home service : 1, 2, 3, or 4
how many years if any for CompleteCare Accidental DamageProtection

First, you have to get the same number of years for warranty and complete care. You can't have 2 years on one, and 3 years on the other. They must be the same amount of years.
As for the number, really depends on you. If you are planning on not upgrading your laptop for several years, then go with a higher warranty. If you figure that you'll only keep it for a couple of years and eventually upgrade to newer one due to technology, then go with a lower amount.
You can always extend your warranty later on as long as you still have warranty on your laptop. Once your warranty is up, you will not be able to extend it. -
another thing to note - if you are planning on selling your laptop, having warranty on it when it's time to sell is always an advantage. No one really wants to buy a used laptop without warranty. That's just asking for trouble.
I've got 4 years of complete care because I'm really planning on keeping this thing (Dell xps m1210) for a long time.
I've got a few questions about complete care, and maybe someone can help me.
how does dell make money off selling complete care? So will they really give me a new XPS M1210 3 years from now if mine decides to crap out on me? If there is no xps m1210 will they give me a newer model? Can they legally give me a refurbished? Do they do inspections and try to fight their way out of providing you a new laptop? thanks -
Can someone tell me how much does Dell charge for upgrading from one year mail-in service to one year on-site warranty? If I want to upgrade from standard one year to two-year, how much will it cost me?
