I (almost) have :) XPS 1530. and as Im reading about new trends, it is obvious that SSD drives are only few years from being massively used. Is it (going to be) possible to replace my "classic" hard drive with SSD one? or are they two completelly different components that cannot replace each other (technicaly, not in terms of evolution :) )?
    thank you

Yes, you will be able to switch (imo).

Currently they are prohibitively expensive, but this will drop quickly I think. I would suggest an ideal combination might be a SSD drive for the OS / Common files and a large HDD for everything else (with some smart caching as RAM increases). Also hybrid drives are pretty nice.

once the technology becomes more affordable, I would be surprised to still see regular HDDs.

3 Years ago I bought a 512mb flash drive for like $50. Now, the exact same store I bought it at has a 16gb flash drive for $60. It's all a matter of time.

With the new ssd price just posted for the ssd xbender, I might consider having my order changed to 2Gb ram as that is a huge price with Dell and also the harddrive would be replaced with the ssd. You may be able to come very close to the price for the new Samsung SSD Sata II included.

You won't have any problem upgrading as the SSD drive will still use Serial ATA (SATA) as its connection to the computer. The Serial ATA spec allows for the increased speed SSD can offer without any problems...

The only worry you can have is that by the time it becomes affordable SATA would be replaced, but I highly doubt that will occur for another 10-15 years.
