    SXGA is higher resolution than XGA. I think it is worth the extra money. 600m isn't that great of a mobile performer.

    GPU cooling (100°C->75°C)* Inspiron 8600 * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo (337/242 -> 400/300) * 2x256 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * Aquamark 3: 24058 * 3DMark'03: 3404 * 3DMark'01 SE: 13120

    I have a 600m and the SXGA+ is completely worth it. If you have good eyes you will really appreciate the extra real estate on the screen. As for peformance, it is also very good. I have a Pentium M 745 (1.8GHZ), 1GB ram, Hitach 7k60, 64MB SXGA+. I can run call of duty on full settings and older games like War 3 TFT on full settings. I imagine I would have to drop for medium settings for a game such as FarCry. The only shortcoming is that you can only get the stock hard drive with at most 5400 rpm. I put the Hitachi 7200rpm hard drive and notice a HUGE difference. I originally had the 4200rpm hard drive. If you want overall performance go with the i8600 though.

    How much battery life do you get with your dothan chip?

    That's great, I always though it got 3.5 hours. That's why I didn't recommend it, since the IBM gets more than 3.5 hours with similar equipment.

    I got 4 hours yesterday just surfing the net and what not with the setting on max battery. I have heard from other people that gaming will give you just about 2 hours and dvd watching will give you about a normal dvd and a half. I am getting a modular battery in two days and I want to see how much juice I can get out of that too.

    It used to only get like 3 hours with the 48 WHr battery. In the last few months though they have changed it to the 53 WHr battery and there is a noticable difference.
