First, this is not going to be a very technical review. I will leave that with Abaxter who also ordered one - configured better too.

Okay, the appearance. The keyboard area. Made of light aluminum (white) and looks it too. The rest is black plastic. It is light! I never based anything I owned upon looks but it is no Vaio and no Apple. But it feels sturdy. I like the keyboard feel - I have small hands. Positive feedback on entering. The display - went straight to playing dvd - Futurama(When Aliens attack...) and another feature - Matrix Reloaded. For a 12" or so, this is one beautiful display! It is very reflective though but it does both dvds justice. Audio was more than loud enough and clear. DVD runs quiet! Heat (left t on for over two hrs) is no problem. By the way, Dell does include wipes for the display.
Internet. Man, Dell makes it easy with their own hookup process. Of course, all the AOL and etc ads comes out but you can pass them over and go directly to the hook up procedure. I was on the net in less than 10 minutes (including registering too).

Have not loaded my anti-virus nor my Office 2003 yet. I have one or two problems though - minor but irritating.
DVD refused to eject . This is not covered in manual to much but does tell you to turn off computer and use the old paper clip idea. I maybe did something wrong whereas I clicked on the viewer screen's upper right box (please remember this is my FIRST windows machine!!) to turn the dvd off - maybe the dvd did not get an order to deactivate the player and therefore not eject????Anyways, I used the clip. There are no dedicated Eject button on the 700m. If there was, I must be blind. Any advice?

Second problem. I inserted (after turning off 700m) the Crucial purchased 512 MB of ram but the 700m (upon pwring up again) did not recognize it and only displayed in the Computer Info section my original 256. I repeated the process and rebooted -still 256.
Will call Crucial. The ram recommended in this manual(700m's) is given as: 128, 256,512MB and 1GB; Memory type 3.3 DDR SODIMM; Maximum memory 2GB. Page 96. What I got from Crucial : 512MB 200-PIN SODIMM 64M X 64 DDR PC2700.

By the way, Dell (as I was told on earlier posts) did include the cds of the pre-installed software! Over 5 of them. Anyway, I will leave the technical stuff to abaxter and will continue to play with this laptop. It is a keeper. Yes, a printer is also included but I have not hooked that up yet. I do not really feel burdened when carrying both Pwrbook17" and the 700m. The 700m's battery (I ordered two) is very light and easy to carry.
Enough already. I must get ready to pose my problem with Crucial tech and ponder my new found Window's friend.

Thanks to all who have helped me! Any advise on the above problems or comments are more than welcome and wanted!!
    Sincerely,
    macmac

great news MacMac! I literally just got mine a few short hours ago but haven't even had the chance to boot it yet because I had to leave right as it arrived. I'll have some of my own thoughts on this notebook in the next couple of days though.

    Dear abaxter,
PLEASE do the review as it should be done! My usage is considered exploratory and play. Yours will be of substance! I await it.

I still cannot fathom on whether just closing the windows by clicking on the upper right will be as same as quitting on a mac...

I will keep in touch after my business with Crucial Techology is done. I see no problems with this company.

Again, looking forward to your review.
    Sincerely, Macmac
