i saw one of my employee's today he recieved it yesterday.. I REALLY LIKE THE WHITE.. BUT..... his "paint" job on it looked terrible.. he is calling dell probably as i type this.. there was dust under the white about probably 10 or more dust "bumps", there was a area where it looked like it had not dried before they handled it and its all bumpy and you can see like a plastic wrap type of finish to it kinda like viens it the paint... the white did not go all the way around the edges i can tell you his was black underneath the white.. since the white paint did not cover it all.. and there was a nice chip on the corner.. needless to say id def say they either rushed it thorugh qc or someone was drinking on the job.... not good...
overall i think i will be calling to see if its not to late to switch to white if his didnt have the blemishes i LOVED IT ... finish seems pretty durable and i think it would hold up okay... nice thing about it being glossy paint is with any small scratches or marks can be buffed out.. he got rid of a lot of the "rough" look of that one area with some fine compound...he was thinking about wet sanding the whole lid and buffing it (after taking it apart) but i explained i saw the pics here on the forum and he should not have to go through that...

Dell already admitted it has a problem with dust contamination i some colors (i believe white and red)

I'm sorry bro, but how would most people know what on earth you are talking about here. Not everyone here is such a geek like me to know that it's probably a thread about the wonderful XPS M1130 (it's actually the first dell i like).........
-
Hmm, my red lid looks fantastic.
-
Is this the XPS or the Inspiron you're talking about? The Wall Street Journal article seemed to be talking about the XPS "pearl white," which was a Microsatin type and is no longer available. The "Alpine white" available on the Inspiron is a glossy white and not Microsatin finish. The white Inspiron lid I saw on display at the Dell kiosk did not even look painted, and I'd like to know for sure if it really is painted or if it's plastic. It sure looked plastic.
I was thinking of changing my order from a colored lid to the white lid in order to get my laptop sooner. But if the white is painted and flaky, I'd rather wait. -
I got my white 1520 a week ago, and it is Perfect in every way, and does have a very durable look and feel to it, I absolutely Love it, so sorry your friends isn't the same, d
-
DWOLFE777,
Can you tell if your 1520 is painted or plastic? -
it does not look painted, it looks thru and thru, Plastic, just beautiful.
-
the inspiron.. if they did switch to a white plastic then his was made before that def painted.. you can see the black underneath the white finish
-
I think I might just go and buy white vinyl and sticker it over my lid... do you think that would look good instead? I don't like how the inside of an inspiron is silver anyway.

i have a 1705, also with the white bumpers, this looks like the same material, white really doesn't show fingerprints

i spoke with him about a half hour ago. dell is sending him out a new unit no questions asked.. they apologized and the csr rep said they knew they were having issues with the colors.. he told me they didnt know what issues but they did say "issues" whatever it means.. but he was told they would "expedite" his order and get it to him as quickly as they can.. score one for dell i guess at least they are always wiling to take care of any problems it seems
i really want white.. i think i may call tomm and switch mine over to white.. i was worried till he said dell said no problem we'll send a new one out
the ones who got a nice white gloss are lucky
