Ok, when hooking the Dell XPS m1210 into a high quality amplifer.... like an ADCOM... with good speakers.... the sound quality is terrible, and I have the audigy software. It is no comparison to the Sound Blaster Audigy CARD that I have installed on my desktop computer... (sounds amazing, like a CD or better) Also, in the audigy software on the laptop I noticed it doesn't allow you to adjust bass and treble settings, it only has an equalizer function... anyone else have this problem? Looks like I'll be ordering a USB SoundBlaster if I really want good sound.... to add to the already 2,200 dollars I overpaid for this piece of crap......

I think you had your expectations set to high for a notebook. Your not going to get the type of sound your audigy desktop card gets. I have seen and played with the m1210 in person. I played music and everything on it, and it sounded quite good. Not quite as good as my desktop but really not bad. If your really that picky about sound, then do get a USB soundblaster card. All notebooks have integrated sound cards, and as far as I know... no one card is really that much better than another. It's simply the reality of notebook soundcards at this day and age.

Uninstall that Audigy software and see what that does. To my knowledge, the XPS M1210 has Intel's High Definition integrated audio, which is very good. How clear the headphone and microphone jacks are on it is another story.

You can't compare the sound of a laptop to a desktop. The desktop will sound 100x better

Some users complained about this also and ended up having better sound when the uninstalled the Audigy software as Chaz stated. Another thing is that you aren't going to get the best sound in the world with laptop speakers. They are pretty crappy to begin with so if you want better sound, you might look at a set of portable speakers.

I'm using high end audio equipment and very expensive stereo speakers that reveal how bad the sound is on the xpsm1210, not desktop speakers...

Have you turned EAX and the other sound enhancing stuff on? I did and saw an improvement on my sound quality. But Like said before is a notebook with two small speakers, its not going to be super high end sound like it seems you expected it to be with a $25 software upgrade. I think it sounds fine through the built in speakers. Personally I think your just trying to find something to gripe about and have.

Can you not do this on your high amp? There must be some software out there that will let you do this, but I'm just not aware of any.

Try updating your audio driver. Sounds like something is messed up with the audio driver. You can get the latest at support.dell.com
