Have you checked your audio settings and made sure the mic is not muted? Check in control panel under sounds and make sure the device is listed and enabled. Then check your audio properties and make sure the mic is not muted and that the gain level is set high enough.

may i ask what is the resolution of the video captured? the manual states VGA 640x480, so what is 2.0mega pixel for? Is that the sensor, resulting in better quality VGA videos, or is that for taking still images?

2 Megapixels is what you get on the M1330 if you don't opt for the thin LED backlit screen. If you do get the thin (nice!) screen then you can only have a VGA camera. I don't think it is a very big compromise as you are unlikely to be using 2 megapixels for video chat.

It means it will take 2 mega pixel STILL pictures.

    Video clips are at 640x480.

My 1420 picks up sound while video recording perfectly, have you tried going into dell webcam center and clicking on the audio source button on the bottom and choosing audio souce control and play around with the settings and make sure that everything is configured right?

are you sure you are not talking loud enough? first time i tried testing it i had to bang on the mic to get it to pick up. it's not too sensitive.
