I am planning on to play a little bit of games on my m1210, but i am not sure whether it would be able to handle some games like F.E.A.R and oblivion. Has anyone tried playing those games on their m1210 running vista, are they playable? I just heard from somebody that Vista kinda sucks in terms of gaming when compared to XP. Thank you in advance. I would consider a FPS of 30 acceptible in a first person shooter. tyty :)

    Specs of m1210:
    256mb nvidia
    2gbs 667mhz ram
    80gb 7200rpm harddrive
    and 2gb core 2 duo T7200

never played fear but I'm l3337 in cs source.

I get 70 fps in dust_2 with all max settings and Anti Aliasing off.

    hope that helps.

You'd be fine at low resolutions, and low-medium settings.. The 7400's a budget card, but the XPS has got a small screnn, to compensate for the card. And it's way better than any other ultraportable.

ty for replies, but are you talking about both FEAR and Oblivion? Btw i have a friend who has the 7200 go on his hp dv2000 and both of these games run okay on his laptop (XP).I wonder if the m1210 would do better than the dv2000 or worse?

It should do better (the GeForce 7400 is a better card than the GeForce 7200).

I am curious about how well Oblivion could perform on a GeForce 7200 Go though.

Very well, apparently. I looked into this question a while back (how well Oblivion works on C2D m1210's) and it works well on medium-high settings at decent FPS.

On a GeForce 7200? Why were you looking into performance on a GeForce 7200 if you were looking into how Oblivion would work on an M1210 (which has a GeForce 7400)?

I don't know, I still have a hard time believing the 7200 could play it well at medium to high settings - just what can a GeForce 7400 do with Oblivion in that case?

As for gaming in Vista, there are a few incompatibilities, however most of those problems will likely be solved soon with game patches and/or new, better Vista drivers.

Well, I am not sure, i thought 7400 is numerically bigger than 7200 ;) so i assume that the 7400 would perform better than the 7200. My friend said he has the settings on medium and there is no lag at all.

Dude...I thought you made a number mistake...this is a m1210 thread, right? Like you say...I don't know anything about the 7200, only 7400 on the m1210. Change all incidences of 7200 to 7400, and my comment holds true. :D

Oblivion would be fine.. high settings, no AA. I was talking about FEAR. And the 7400's going to be better than the 7200. It's got a faster core and more dedicated memory(128 MB in the XPS, if I am not mistaken).

to what extent does the incompatibilities affect gameplay i wonder. would it be a huge issue?
if u look at cnet's m1210 review, they could only get 16.2 or something fps on quake 4, and thats pretty bad.. =( My question is would the FPS be better if its running XP.ty

I think the XPS only has 64 mbs of dedicated memory, but a guide here said there is practically no difference between the 64mb version and the 128 mb version. Also, i thought Oblibion is a more demanding game than F.E.A.R? Howcome Fear will have to be low settings while oblivion could run at high settings?? I am a little confused

I think the thread has become messy of late. My comment kind of got mixed up in a lot of conversation. To clarify....

You will be able to run Oblivion and FEAR in Vista, with decent performance

I know for a fact that under XP, Oblivion plays very well under medium-high settings on the m1210 + dedicated nvidia card.

It concerns me that the m1210 could not get a decent FPS in quake 4 i tohught fear and quake 4 are quite similar in terms of requirements and stuff?

Playability is subjective, what seems fine for one user could be intolerable for another, the GF 7400 is a bottom rung mid range card, its going to struggle with A-list modern titles period, but for a 12.1" system, nothing can come close to it, if gaming is a very high priority, you might want to look elsewhere though.

Are you basing this off one review? Driver issue, bad install, older build of the game, settings used, defective hardware, odd anomalies are common in PC reviews, I havent personally run quake 4 on my M1210, but I believe PREY is based off that engine, and runs very well at 1024x768 with medium settings, no AA and 4X AF.

thank you, well i am just going to play those 2 games on my computer and warcraft 3 which shouldn't be a problem at all, so i am by no means a hardcore gamer. I mostly use the laptop for word processing and stuff. umm as for playability, like i said earlier i think 30fps constant is pretty good in single player

Well they use different engines, but yes, they are similar in graphical abilities.

To be fair, they are both based on heavily modified versions of the Doom 3 engine (or Prey is at least, I'm not sure how much they modified it for Quake 4)
