Want to replace it with something smaller...a dell again. It's for school mostly. You think XPS 1330 would be a downgrade?
-
Performance-wise... you can get similar specs on either machine, so it won't matter much.
The D630 should be more durable than the M1330... so if you get the 1330, just treat it nicely.
Screen-wise... well, yeah, the M1330 screen will be smaller... so you just have to decide whether that's ok with you or not. -
If you can, I'd wait for the new Latitudes. The new 14 inch and 15 inch ones are due out in June, being smaller and lighter than today's counterparts.
You wouldn't sacrifice screen size, and would get newer technology and a more portable laptop, still with Latitude quality.

Having D630 and the M1330 and the D420, this is what i'd say,
D630 : very robust, damn good battery life, heavy, no webcam, no card reader
M1330 : slim and light, turn heards (might not be a good thing when you are traveling a lot), not as robust, may have reliability issues with 8400GS
D420 : Small, very light, has docking/mediabase, underpowered for my needs (ULV cpu, 420orpm drive...). Screen can be tiring if you don't have a separate desktop LCD for proper work.
the size difference between the 14.1 and 13.3 is not significant. Once you get used to it you wont miss the larger 14.1 unless you had the 14.1 WXGA+ screen.
I would say stick with the D630 until the E series latitude is launched. The E4300 seems to be the perfect balance. We should be able to get our hands on the E series by June or July, so its not a long wait. -

I have a couple comparison photos of the D630 along with the M1330. As you'll see, the size differences aren't significant, so if down-sizing if what you're after, you'll be disappointed.

I'm also eying the Latitude E series. Those will be quite a bit lighter than the existing Latitude lineup.
thinking of replacing my lat d630
