i had thought that these were samsung display's??? according to samsung they are not??? i was told they are sieko-epson displays?? any one know any more about this?? just being curious thanks
-
They are most definitely Seiko displays. When I'm running Kubuntu, Seiko is the brand that it detects in the Nvidia settings.
Samsung is the brand of the ram for the Inspirons and Vostros though. -
well everyone here has been posting them up as samsung displays for everyone's info they are not samsung as i thought that they were.. hence the reason a lot of people that had them said they sucked.. i didnt think the samsung's would suck like that
-
Where did you get this info zfactor? any links?
-
based on manufacture info from anandtech and a few other very reputable web sites.. also i got a reply email from samsung telling me the lcd i asked about was no theirs...
-
SEC = Seiko Epson Corp
-
thank you^^^ no matter what anyone posts everyone still says they are samsung
-
This is what it says under my Systems and Peripherals at support.cell.com
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 14.1WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., TLF, SAMSUNG
<shrug> -
what is your hardware id... ??
-
Hardware id says...MONITOR/SEC4457
-
ill have to look further into this.. after speaking with dell and samsung directly they told me the sec number from my brother in law's 1500 was in fact not a samsung screen
-
Yeah, good luck. The screen is nice either way, but it's taking some getting used to the glossy. Kinda annoys me there is no matte 1440x900 option for the vostro 1400. I have a matte 1280x800 and glossy 1440x900 sitting side by side at the moment...decisions decisions
-
i wonder if samsung or seiko make one anothers displays or visa versa..
-
-
Dunno, but i *****ed to dell since their reps lied to me twice now about the screens so, hoping they'll ship me a laptop with the 1440x900 matte...bastards
-
hey zfactor,
did you get your replacement laptop yet? If you did, what's the condition of the LCD? -
cancelled it man.. see sig for new system coming instead
-
o...wow. Well, isn't the 1520 and the Vostro the same build? or do they have better screens? I hear that some of them do have grainy screens, but I'm not sure about the backlight.
How long did it take for the replacement Vostro to come? Did it have a faulty screen? -
less than 10 days for the replacement, the inspiron is supposed to be a bit less overall build quality but they are supposed to use sec or lpl for screens and not auo so i went that way
-
wish i had the LPL...but, anyway,im happy with my SEC
-
SEC is Samsung not Seiko Epson. See the index of an industrial report here. Someone just reverse engineer the acronym and got it wrong.
Nevertheless, Seiko-Epson is one of the major LCD panel manufacturer. -
-
It has been proved that the acronim SEC stands for Seiko Epson Corp
-
No. Not on the industrial report. SEC is for Samsung there. -
-
thake a look at this link SEC info...
-
haha i guess you were right
so why samsung denies to be SEC manufacturer? -
FYI. The SECinfo site has nothing to do with Seiko Epson either.
See here. LOL. -
OK, just to put an end to this, I just disassembed a Vostro 1400 with an SEC4457 hardware ID.
Guess, what? Samsung!!! NOT Seiko Epson:

Does the same apply to a SEC3157?
-
-
Actually it might, since lancorp's LCD is a WXGA+, I believe I just have a regular WXGA, so that explains a difference in the numbers after SEC. Just a guess on my part also though.
-
as i said its very possible that samsung makes or visa versa one another's panels. when i spoke with samsung tech he told me the panel in question was not theirs.. i guess they need new techs over there at samsung cause if he was wrong about a lcd they actually manufacture then they dont know their head from their asses.... but as of now i guess you are right ill look further into this monday i mean about seiko being made by samsung
-
zfactor have you tried googling the model number?
-
do you mean, googling for SEC4457? i tried..and nothing...
-
i tried google as well. for a few of the sec numbers that have been listed here
-
That's why this discussion has been going around for a couple days.
Hey swarmer, it is hard not to try google first before posting. But obvious you are one. LOL.
