on my old gateway i could set different commands for different areas on the touchpad. on my 1330, there's no setting for this. is there anyway to get this to work? i liked closing programs by tapping the right corner and other shortcuts i had set up.

    thanks

only some touchpads can do this, and i think the m1330 cant, because it doesnt have the 2nd function button on the touchpad.correct me if i am wrong

I saw somewhere that someone downloaded some generic drivers for the touchpad and it had touch zones voila

The Synaptics driver has tap zones if that is the same as what you are looking for.. It actually has quite a few configurable options over the one provided by Dell.

The XPS M1330, thankfully, has the Synaptics touchpad. Get the driver that allows all the extra functions from here:

    http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm

For some reason, all of Dell's touchpad drivers for all the current laptops come with the TOTALLY stripped out driver. Can't even go back/forward in the browser! I suppose to cut down on calls when some people think their touchpad has gone nuts?

The Latitudes have the Alps touchpad. The Synaptics is *SO* much more responsive!!! My Vostro 1400 has the Alps, after I got the M1330 going back to the 1400 the mouse is dragging!

yep like the two posters above suggested. I mentioned this in some other thread. I downloaded the generic from synaptics web site for the appropriate OS, Vista 32 bit in my case. Install without any problem, then go into control panel, mouse, then an additional tab is added at the end "device setting" with the synaptics logo on it, then click on setting, then tap zone then so on.

The only different to my previous synaptic driver is that it won't let you record a series of keystrokes to be replayed when you tap on a certain corner.

Andy, when you compare 1330 with 1420 what is your overall conclusion.
