I have an inspiron 1720, I keep bumping my hand/arm/finger onto the touchpad when i type, which causes the cursor to move me to a place where've i typed before.

is there a way to turn off the touchpad?

Go into the toucpad application (should be an icon in your system tray). There should be a feature called touch check (or something like it). Move the slider all the way to the right.

    The should help some....
