So MediaDirect isn't finding my music and videos when I click on update library. I tried the F8 delete restoration data thing but that didn't help. I have my admin. account set up and password protected in Windows and the guest account enabled, and I currently use WMP 11 beta which is set to monitor the MyDocs/My Music and MyVideos folders, which is where all my music/videos are stored. I did try putting a song in the Shared Music folder and it showed up. Do the files have to be in the Shared Music/Video folder only for MediaDirect to see the files, or is there a way I can get it to see the music/videos in my admin. account My Music/My Videos folders? Thanks.

As far as I know, you can have it located anyone where on your HDD. I haven't messed with MD very much, but the delete restoration data normally works. You might be having troubles cause you have a guest account.

If you don't mind, you can disable your guest account, and then do the restoration data thing again. See if that detects your music.

Thank you Southern Girl but unfortunately that didn't work. I also tried disabling the password on my account and having the guest account turned off, no luck. I also tried to browse for it by clicking the "more music" button (or whatever it's called) and going to C:/Docs and Settings/*my name here* but there were no My Music or other folders visible there. Anyone have any ideas?

You can try one of the following methods:

[- Once you press the MediaDirect button while the laptop is off press F8 before MediaDirect loads, then you will get 2 options, one to delete the restoration data and the second to continue, select the first option to delete the restoration data.]

[- When you create a password in windows (with NTFS file system) make sure that you dont select the option to make your files private, otherwise MediaDirect wont be able to detect the files in your account because they are encrypted.

    * Since you have already tried the first method, try using the second method.
Let say you have already created a password and checked the "make my files private" option. To un-private your account's files follow the steps below:

    1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings (considering C is where Windows is installed).

    2. Right click the folder that has your account name and select properties.

    3. Select the Sharing Tab

    4. Uncheck the "Make this folder private" option.

(Note: Private files are only available in a NTFS file system, FAT32 does not support private (encrypted) files.)

    - After doing this shutdown windows, press the MediaDirect Button, press F8 before MediaDirect loads, and delete restoration data. Your MediaDirect should work now.]

Does that make all the files in My Documents visible and accessible to anyone on the Guest account?

Yes, but why dont u just disable the guest account? In my opinion a laptop is better for personal usage, than multi-user. If you u r a single user and want to protect ur files why dont u add a HDD password in the BIOS, this way no one will able to view ur files even if the HDD is placed in another laptop.

Ok, so I un-privated my files and MediaDirect was able to find them all. Good. I logged in as the guest and went to C:/Documents and Settings/*my name* and it said "Access is denied" :) . I don't know if that's what it's supposed to do but that's what I wanted, to be able to access my media files through MD but have them inaccessible from the guest account. I leave the guest account on in case one of my roommates needs to use my computer, so they can't mess w/ too much.
