i just got a dell 1505 a few days ago, and trying to reformat the laptop

But i found out that there are 3 partitions
C- the main drive where windows is installed and
    D- the back-up drive and
F- where 500mb is only partitioned

This is the way this laptop was partitioned when i was trying to format it.

I don't have any problems with drive D since i was trying to make 2 partitions anyway however i do not know why drive F is even there or why it's partitioned only with 500mb.

so anyway, i booted my laptop on my xp prof CD and deleted all partition D and F. But after i deleted them, the unpartitioned space for F drive and D drive remained separate rather then being combined into one unpartitioned space which made me unable to combine the unpetitioned spaces together to put it on my main C drive.

did anybody have the same problem with dell, or does anybody know how to combine two separate unpartitioned space?
